SUPREME CHAMPIONSHIP SOLOUTION

It was hoped when we started the Regional Supreme Championship that it might encourage shooters to perhaps try disciplines they wouldn't normally, in turn this would increase attendances and revenue to the region, and by way of the cartridge prizes, the cloth badge, and the accolade of being a Regional Supreme Champion, encourage shooters to buy into the idea.

This is only the second year of the competition but we would openly admit this has not been the case in some categories, most notably the Ladies.

We now have the scenario that after 5 events 5 ladies have shot one event and are joint leaders. There were in fact 6 Ladies tying for first place but one is already omitted because of the already in place tie break rule.

In a normal All Round competition the policy would be to draw one event out of a hat and shoot off over that discipline.

But by using that method we could virtually predict who was going to win, simply because that was the chosen discipline they gained their points in. It was decided that this would not give all the tied shooters an even chance; furthermore the logistics of organising a shoot off would not be worthwhile in monetary terms for some.

If we did organise a 100 bird All Round shoot off at a central location, shooters would incur, travel and food expenses, entry fee, plus the cost of cartridges, therefore shooters would never be able to recoup their outlay even if they won the sponsored cartridges.

This we feel would devalue our attempts to make this a worthwhile championship for people to compete at in the coming years.

It is with this in mind, it was felt that we should split the cartridge prizes between all tied shooters this year whatever the category, and present them all with a joint winner’s cloth badge.

This is probably not the best scenario but we feel the fairest under the current criteria and rules of the competition.

We have now decided for future years that to qualify in winning a category you must shoot a minimum of three of the Supreme Championship events.

We are though open to any suggestions in how we can make this Championship a more attractive prospect for next year and future years, so if you can think of anything to tweak the main idea we will happily assess your suggestion. You can do this by sending an email to the Regional Secretary at colincpsa@yahoo.co.uk

This was exactly the case for the Directors Trophy, whereby a suggestion by Paul Brown from Nottingham was adopted and made the competition open to all categories, and more likely that any team shooter could influence the final result regardless if they shot in Seniors, Ladies, Veterans or Juniors.

The Regional committee work very hard to give its shooters more than any other Region and at no extra cost.

We are the only region to provide a Season Ticket winner with over £800 of free Championship shooting, that person is drawn from those shooters on our data base and those that follow us on Facebook.

We are the only region to have a Directors Trophy competition, whereby the highest scoring county over the Intercounties shoots is awarded the Directors Trophy.

We are the only region that runs a Regional Supreme Championship, with sponsored cartridges from Nottingham & District GC, plus an annual cup and cloth badges for the winners.
