Kent County Website : News Reports

10/03/2010 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (5th MARCH ANGEL CENTRE)
The evening went well and appeared to be informative as well as having a laugh or two.
There was a proposal by the committee to have a permanent trophy cabinet at Dartford GC
and for the trophies not to be taken home by individuals.  The committee explained that several trophies have been mislaid in recent years and many are never where they should be.
The vote by the members (CPSA members but exluding committee members) was marginally against the proposal.   The committee will have an item on the agenda for the next meeting to discuss how we can better manage the trophies.  One suggestion was to have one committee member soley responsible.
The minutes from the AGM will soon be available on this web site detailing the events of the evening including the Treasurer's report,  fund raising,  the election of the new committee and information on our 2010 Dinner and Dance.
Details of the SHOOTERS OF THE YEAR along with some photos can be found in it's own
news section below.
Please also take a look in the PHOTO GALLERY section.

16/11/2009 - 2009 DINNER and DANCE at THE HOP FARM
It might have been Friday the 13th but the Dinner and Dance went without incident - mainly thanks to the hard work put in by the staff at the Hop Farm.   A raffle followed the lovely roast dinner where the generous people of Kent coughed up £350.  I think this may have been down to Johnny Walker prizing the men's wallets open !
The auction came next where an astonishing £430 was raised.  One lot in particular,  two framed pictures of an English Springer and a Pointer,  went for £200 - which got applause.
In total the evening raised £1060.
The band (UNDERCOVER) fronted by our vey own Malcolm Clarke,  got the diners up and dancing and even managed to get his own 'groupies'.
I've sent a 'thank you' email to The Hop Farm on everyone's behalf thanking them for the smooth running of the evening and putting on such a lovely spread.

A big thank you to our sponsors :-

19/10/2009 - SOUTH OF ENGLAND ENGLISH SPORTING RESULTS - SOUTHDOWN 27/9

This was a chance for Kent's individual shooters to show what they are made of and
they haven't disappointed.
Kevin Howland 3 clear targets of his nearest rival to take high gun with 109/120.
It was a happy day in the Hodges household with Iris winning Lady Champion and Brian
getting Veteran Champion.  James Attwood continues to prove his consistency with another
outstanding score of 96/120 to win him Junior Champion.  Lewis Ballantyne has got to grips
with Southdown this year and was the highest scoring Colt.

07/10/2009 - A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR YOUNG SHOTS SPONSORS

Two young Kent shooters were sponsored this year to enter the British Open English Sporting at Lakenheath and they would like me to pass on their 'thank yous' to the sponsors.
They are  Nathan Hales (Colt 58/100) and Lewis Ballantyne (Colt 54/100).
A big thank you to :-
          Jamie Brightman
          T&S Engineering Services Ltd
Jamie was kind enough to spend some time with Lewis and I'm sure has passed on some tips.
Both young men have said it was a fantastic experience and for one it was the first time he'd shot in a squad.
If you are a young Kent shooter and feel that you'd like to do something like this next
year then please get in touch.   Likewise if you want to sponsor a Kent Colt or Junior (or maybe a Lady shooter) then contact one of the committee members.
How about sponsoring a young SKEET shooter ?

01/10/2009 - ALMOST A CLEAN SWEEP FOR KENT IN THE SOUTH EAST REGION ALL-ROUNDER

A good show from our Kent shooters at Dartford (13/9/9) for the South East Region
All-Rounder competition with winners in nearly all the classes.
Timmy Martin showed the way with some excellent scores including two straights
(Single Barrel and English Sporting).  Can someone tell Tim that he's also supposed to score
a straight in SKEET !  Maybe he can get some lessons from Johnny ?
Karen Husk did a good job to take the Lady's title as did Lewis Ballantyne in Junior.
Congratulation to Sophie Weller from Greater London winning COLT with a score to
be proud of.   Danny Ledger and Paul Berry have also added to the Kent 'haul' by winning
their class with scores in the eighties.

21/09/2009 - KENT CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLE BARREL - MAYLANDS 13th SEPTEMBER
"Maylands put on a lovely day - good targets and made us very welcome" - David Amos.

High Gun was won by John Malden with a magnificent score of 95.  David Billingsby misses
out on the chance of a shoot-off by just one clay but retains his Veterans Title.
Tanya Kensley shot a solid 83 to become Ladies Champion and is proving to be competent
all rounder.

25/08/2009 - KENT DOES IT AGAIN
Kent have won their fifth South East Regional title with a win in the Universal Trench just  4
targets clear of Sussex.  It was a glorious sunny day at Nuthampstead with a deceiving wind
for the 6 full teams that entered this favourite of disciplines.
Dick Fletton lead from the front winning Veteran class and helping Kent to victory.

25/08/2009 - RESULTS AND PICTURES FROM THE KENT DOUBLE RISE CHAMPIONSHIP
A glorious day for the Kent Double Rise Championship at Maylands Gun Club (23rd August).
Dave Amos retained his High Gun title with an impressive 96/100 with Pete Kemsley close
on his heels posting 93/100.   Pete may not have got the high gun but his Daughter Tanya
did him proud by posting a terrific score of 80/100 to win the Lady's title.
This is Tanya's first full year shooting and is already showing great promise in ESP and Trap -
so if anyone reading this is looking to sponsor a Kent shooter then maybe you'd consider Tanya.
The Veteran trophy goes to our very own Pete Wallis - well done Grandad !

07/08/2009 - JAMIE BRIGHTMAN BUILDS ON HIS SUCCESS IN EUROPE
Jamie Brightman has won the Estonian Grand Prix FITASC Sporting.   The shoot was over 200
targets and held at the Manniku Shooting Ground outside Tallinn.
Trailing the leader by 4 targets after the first day a good score was required on the second
day to ensure at least a podium finish.
Faced with some extreme targets and heavy rain Jamie shot well to win the championship
by two clear targets.  Once again thanks to Perazzi,  Gamebore Cartridges and Hidefspex for
their continued support.

27/07/2009 - KENT ENGLISH SKEET NON-TOXIC CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS - KINGSFERRY.
It was only held Yesterday and here's the results already.
HIGH GUN with a maximum score of 100/100 goes to Daren Wood.
LADY CHAMPION is Sarah Quinn with an excellent score of 98/100.
VETERAN CHAMPION after a shoot off against Chris Strange and Dave Record again with
a score of 98/100 is Johnny Walker.
JUNIOR CHAMPION with a score of 93/100 is Ollie Wellard.
It was a bit windy on the island which makes these scores even more impressive.   The Vetarans put on another good show with yet another shoot off.

24/07/2009 - KENT WIN THEIR THIRD 2009 INTER-COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIP.
Kent take the honours in the INTER-COUNTIES DOUBLE TRAP at Bisley 19th July beating their
nearest rivals by 16 clear targets.  It was an excellent effort by the whole team.
It was even more special as Kent were not on the radar for a win as this prize is usually
shared between either Surrey or Sussex.     (See results section for a full score sheet)

Many people say that this is the 'most frustrating and difficult discipline' and Kent have
proved yet again that they are up for the challenge.   Chris Boakes put in a fantastic effort winning High Gun and James Attwood is proving to be a real all-rounder by winning Junior in yet another discipline.

07/07/2009 - KENT SKEET DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP 27/6 AT KINGSFERRY GUN CLUB.
There was no doubt about the weather and the day looked promising with the birds on rails - something special was going to happen.
Some of the earlier scores looked promising compared to previous Championships but the best was yet to come.   Louis Mondesir got things off to a good start with a 98 only to be followed by Jason Adams and Johnny Walker - all on 98.   In the last squad of the day Geoff Evans also puts in a fantastic 98.
That gave us a four way shoot-off.   50 targets in doubles then alternate pairs on station 4.   All four shot 24x24 on the first round but as the tension mounted Louis Mondesir and Johnny Walker let one go by which left Jason Adams and Geoff Evans to take alternate pairs from the middle station.
Both shooters started off very confident and were in the middle of the pairs and it didn't look as if either of them would miss but after 12 pairs Jason missed the second bird of the next pair.   We all thought it was over but Geoff goes and does exactly the same thing letting Jason off the hook.   3 pairs later and straight from Jason and unfortunately Geoff misses the second bird.   Jason Adams wins the Kent Championship Doubles from a thrilling shoot-off with Geoff Evans.
Jason won the Kent English Skeet Championship earlier in the season so has now completed the double !!   A very rare bird indeed.  More on this later because because the archives are being checked to see when this last happened - or at all.   Jason has certainly made his transition from Junior to Senior in style and it great to see such a nice guy doing so well.
Well done Jason - from all your fellow Skeet shooters.

10/06/2009 - HOW DO YOU GET YOUR DAD TO BUY YOU A NEW GUN ?
If you're young James Attwood get him to promise you a new Beretta DT10 if you win high gun at Southdown.   James was TOP GUN at Southdown on 31st May with a score of 95/100 beating some prominant shooters for good measure.
Check out the full scores on the CPSA web site :-
   http://www.cpsa.co.uk/scores/fixtures/37/44536
James was shooting his old 682 Gold E with Black Gold cartridges.  The weather was blue sky and bright sunshine causing him to lose one bird which was a midi from the tower directly into the sun.  The final stand was a scorcher of a target - a long quartering midi off the other tower but James was on it with a 9/10.
James started shooting at a young age around the farms with a .410 and hasn't looked back since.   He is at Canterbury's St. Edmonds School and is currently taking his exams.  A keen footballer in the winter and cricketer in the summer - he plays for both school teams.

05/06/2009 - JAMIE BRIGHTMAN'S 2009 SEASON CONTINUES TO GET BETTER AND BETTER.
Jamie has won the Belguim leg of the World Cup Compaq Sporting.  Held over two days across eight layouts, using Perazzi/Gamebore/Hidefspex, he shot 94 on day 1 followed by 96 on the second day taking the GOLD MEDAL by 5 clear targets.
Full results can be found on the official FITASC web site :-
   http://www.fitasc.info/index.cfm?RndURL=00525774&CFID=3710425&CFTOKEN=32129603
Scanning the SENIOR results I can see that Jamie was the only shooter to straight 2 layouts.

04/06/2009 - KENT HAVE WON THE SOUTH EAST REGION INTER-COUNTIES ENGLISH SKEET.

24/05/2009 - JOHNNY WALKER WINS VETERAN ESK OPEN CHAMPION AT LAKENHEATH.
Johnny got a one hundred straight at the CPSA ENGLISH OPEN SKEET 2009 at Lakenheath on 24th May. Kent man Hector Dallas was runner-up veteran with a 99/100,  dropping a target on the first layout.

11/05/2009 - SUCCESS AT THE ENGLISH OPEN
Congratulations to Kent man Mark Winser who got HIGH GUN in the English Open at High Lodge last weekend scoring a magnificent 94/100.   Paul Simpson (Suffolk) got RUNNER UP with a 93/100.   Third place was decided after a 20 bird shoot-off between Richard Faulds MBE (Hampshire) and our very own Kevin Howland.  Richard shot 19/20 and Kevin 17/20 giving Richard the 3rd place.   Kevin had to make do with being 1st in triple A !

30/04/2009 - JAMIE BRIGHTMAN GETS BETTER AND BETTER
Jamie has won bronze at the World English Sporting Championships held at San Antonio Texas.  The shoot was a 200 English Sporting target event + top 6 final.
He shot 93 on the first day and 97 on the second.

"The second day I shot THE round of my life - straighting the first 7 stands
finishing on a 97 and 3 targets clear of George Digweed"
This gave Jamie a total of 190x200 just one target behind George Digweed MBE who went on to win the Gold medal.
"The final was shot over some of the toughest targets I've ever been faced
with and unfortunately I dropped back to third place after a shoot-off with
             Brandon Powell of the USA"
Jamie was delighted to be placed yet again on the podium at another World Championship and would like to thank his sponsors for their continued support - Perazzi, Hidefspex and Gamebore Cartridges.  He would also like to thank all the fellow Kent shooters who have given their support and words of encouragement.

It's even more impressive when you look at the scores posted by the other 500 contestants.
Check the full results out at :-

On behalf of the Kent CPSA committee and its members - Congratulations Jamie.

24/04/2009 - KENT ENGLISH SKEET CHAMPIONSHIP (Dartford 19th April)
HIGH GUN          Jason Adams          97/100
LADY                Sarah Quinn            97/100
VETERAN          Johnny Walker        97/100
JUNIOR             Tom Corbin              95/100
COLT                 Frank Clark             86/100
In recent years the Kent English Skeet Championship has alternated between Dartford and Kingsferry.  This year it was Dartford's turn to host the event and once again they made the day a great success.
There were new and old faces amongst the trophies and some welcome surprises.  I'll start with Kent's newest find - Colt Champion Frankie Clark.  None of the regular skeet shooters knew much about this young lad and there were rumours that this was his first competitive skeet shoot.  He put in a solid score of 86 and it was good enough to claim the prize.  Junior champion went to Tom Corbin,  himself a Colt only a few years ago and putting in some dedicated shooting.  Sarah Quinn shot in the early squad and as usual pulled out a big score when she needed it - leaving the ground having shot a 97.
Veteran champion was yet to be decided as four shooters finished on a score of 97 and that included Johnny Walker.  Sarah Quinn was unable to return for the shoot-off so it was between Johnny Walker, Jason Adams and Dave Andes to contest for High Gun.  After another round of skeet it was Johnny who surprisingly dropped out of the running and therefore becoming the Kent Veteran Champion.
Jason Adams and Dave Andes moved to the middle stand for pairs to continue the shoot-off.  After another box of cartridges all was still square and they took a short break.  The interruption seemed to break Dave's concentration who missed the very next pair with Jason hitting both.
Jason Adams is our 2009 English Skeet Champion with a score of 97+24+28.  He's been the Junior champion a number of times and has now won High Gun in his first year as a Senior.   Congratulations to all - including Dave Andes who made the shoot-off very entertaining.
