Cornwall CPSA Season Update: A Year of Success Across the Duchy Cornwall CPSA members have enjoyed a busy and successful season, with strong performances at local, national and international events. From county championships and selection shoots to outstanding junior achievements on the world stage, the Duchy has continued to show the strength, commitment and community spirit behind clay shooting in Cornwall. Committee News and Member Engagement The Cornwall CPSA Committee held its AGM at St Stephen Social Club near St Austell, where the committee for 2026 was confirmed. David Johns continues as Chairman, with John Trevethan as Vice Chairman, Alison Morden Hawke as Secretary and Ian Lobb as Treasurer. Nick Carey and Steve Tomlinson also continue to support the committee, with Steve Tomlinson and Ian Lobb representing Cornwall on the South West Committee. The committee thanked Steve Moses for his valuable support over recent years after he stepped down due to personal commitments. Members are encouraged to get involved, share ideas and help increase engagement with future AGMs and county activities. Supporting the Sport and Local Grounds Throughout the year, Cornwall’s shooting grounds have worked hard to keep events running despite challenging weather and a busy fixture calendar. The committee extended thanks to all ground owners, staff, referees and volunteers who continue to support county shoots, selection events and championships. Landare Shooting Ground and North Cornwall Shooting Ground both hosted major county fixtures during the season, offering strong targets, good organisation and valuable opportunities for members to compete across disciplines including English Sporting, Sport Trap, All Round, Skeet Doubles, DTL, ABT, Double Rise, Single Barrel and Universal Trench. Outstanding Performances and County Champions Cornwall shooters achieved excellent results across the season. Highlights included Martin Elworthy winning the Cornwall CPSA All Round Championship, Kelvin Walsh taking the ABT Overall and Senior title, Gareth Williams becoming Cornwall Sport Trap Champion, and Louis Ashton winning the Cornwall County English Sporting Championship Final after a strong shoot-off. There were also strong performances in the trap disciplines, with Simon Ede taking several major titles including Double Rise, DTL and Single Barrel honours. Other notable winners included Gary Lean, David Sleeman, Colin Chidley, Ben Hibbert, Pete Mylam, Chris Durkin, Tim Manhire, Bill Moussalli, Alison Morden Hawke, Emily Morden-Hawke, Marley Lamerton, Amy Rogers, Matthew Rowland, Aiden Scott and Bobby Lean. Junior Success on the International Stage One of the standout stories of the year was the success of Cornwall junior member Denzil Grose, who won Gold in Junior Olympic Skeet at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Cairo while representing Great Britain. His achievement marks another major step on his Olympic Pathway and has been celebrated by his family, sponsors, coaches, teammates and the Cornwall CPSA Committee. Other junior members also represented Cornwall with pride. Tom Windhaber earned his first GB bib in Olympic Skeet at the Nordics in Estonia, finishing fourth, while Matthew Rowland competed for Great Britain in Universal Trench in Valencia and finished sixth overall. Bobby Lean also enjoyed a remarkable first season, collecting county junior titles across several disciplines. National and Regional Representation Duchy members represented Cornwall at major national competitions, including the CPSA English Sporting Championship at Barbury Shooting School and the Hull Pro One ESP. Pete Mylam achieved an excellent result at Barbury, finishing second overall in the Super Final and winning the Vets title. Bill Moussalli also impressed at the English Skeet Open, winning both AA Class and Super Vets. Cornwall was also represented by Gary Burton, who competed for the England Veterans DTL team and contributed to Home International and British Open DTL success. These achievements show the depth of talent across the county, from juniors through to veterans. Development Days and Future Support The committee continues to look at ways to support ladies and juniors in the county. A development day had been considered for the season, but due to limited interest it is expected to be revisited next summer.
