Veteran R. Sloley 89

Thanks once again to Andy Riva and his team for once again hosting the Essex Allround, on a glorious summer day when the temperature climbed and climbed. There was unfortunately a shortage of shooters, I think that the football kept them away. Congratulations to all our winners.

P.S. If anyone out there has any Essex Trophy's in there collections could you please return them to a member of the committee, so we can get them engraved.

Dave Bignell takes 2015 Essex All-Round Championship

Essex CPSA allround championship held at Clacton GC 2015.

Thanks once again to Andy Riva and the Team at the Clacton gun club for hosting the 2015 Essex Allround championship on Saturday 11th July. It was a  lovely summers day, with the sun shining and only a light breeze. All shooters started on the sporting layout that had some excellent targets set over four stands with a very good variation of speed and distance, followed by skeet, DTL single barrel and ABT to finish.

At the end of the day with all the scores checked, the winner of the Ladies title was Pam Dorrington who retained the trophy for another year. Sadly, there were no Junior or Colt entries.

Moving onto the seniors there was a tie for first place between Robert Humphreys and Dave Bignell both having shot 90/100. The shoot-off discipline was decided by a draw made by the staff of Clacton GC which determined that it was to be held over 25 skeet targets. At the end of the 25 skeet both shooters had the same score yet again on 23 each so it was onto stands 3,4,& 5 for a doubles miss-and-out final. With more than his fair share of luck (his words!) after six doubles Dave Bignell was the final winner meaning that he had retained the Allround and Veterans titles for another year.

Report

It is thanks again to Andy Riva and his team of rain soaked helpers that made this event a great success, on a day of typical bank holiday weather the rain held off for the first four squads to go through then the heavens opened and did not stop for the rest of the day. Despite this there were some tremendous scores but the enteries were down on previous years. Thanks to all who attended and we hope you have dried out by now.

Essex All-Round Championship - Clacton 2014

It's thanks yet again to Andy Riva at the Clacton Gun Club for hosting this year's Essex Allround championship. The early starters put together some good scores with Lewis Steed setting the pace with a splendid 92, the Sporting layout taking more casualties than normal due to a tricky 3 pairs on stand one.

Later in the day Paul Burrows and Robert Humphreys matched the 92 of Lewis. With only two shooters left to shoot, and only one of them from Essex, Lewis was contacted for a possible shoot off. The last Essex shooter was the Veteran Dave Bignell who kept the 92 boys waiting until the very last shot of the competition to come in with a 93 thereby taking both the Essex championship and the Veterans title.

The Ladies champion was Pam Dorrington. Unfortunately there were no junior or colt entries.

Essex All-round Challenge – Clacton 27th August 2012

Rob Butters

August Bank Holiday Monday in the UK traditionally has a big question mark when it comes to the weather. It seems that Clacton Gun Club are able to order the weather to suit all year and this day was no exception. No rain, plenty of sunshine and the wind turned up just a little to allow the targets to act like the quarry they are meant to represent.

Even the radio warning of an escaped Lion very close to the ground did not deter 67 competitors from enjoying the weather and the excellent competition.

Squad one, peg one can bring additional nerves into a challenge day. Rob Butters from Suffolk chose or was chosen to take the honourable position. About 90 minutes later he returned to the clubhouse having set a score of 95 for those who followed to attempt to beat.

Steve Miller who hadn't attended the ground for some time came close with 92, Mike Worsfold who has a reserved chair in the clubhouse as he rarely misses a Clacton date also posted 92. Eric Chapman, well known for his ability, also 93. Could anyone challenge the first score? Paul Fulcher tried, and came back with 93 and the runner up spot.

So first score was the best! Well done Rob.

Essex All-Round Challenge - 29th August 2011

Michael Winters

The Essex All-Round Challenge 2011 was held at Clacton GC where it was a dry day with moderate winds increasing through the afternoon, making the targets ever more difficult.

Oliver Wilde and Paul Brewster yet again led the field for most of the day with scores of 92.

Later that afternoon, Michael Winters took the lead with a superb 95, R Grosser from Suffolk coming close on 94. Later still Eric Chapman, another great Suffolk shot, came home also with a 95 after missing the last target on the ABT layout!

A great Shoot-off followed on the ABT where Michael Winters scored 24 to Eric Chapman's 22, thereby becoming 2011 Challenge Champion.

There was no shoot-off as Lewis Steed had gone home and could not be contacted.

Strong gusting winds made for difficult targets especially in Single Barrel and Skeet.

P Brewster and Lewis Steed topped the Essex scores, with Richard Hunter from Suffolk taking AA with a 94.
