DTL Victoria Trophy - 13th May 2018

On what started out as a dreary overcast and rainy Sunday at Mayland Gun Club the competition for the DTL Victoria Trophy was soon underway when Nicky Waghorne posted a 99 / 297 on one of the early speed squads. Despite their best efforts, when the last trigger was pulled nobody was able to get close and Nicky was crowned a well-deserved champion. With Class Wins as follows:

AA John Parry
A Conner Logan
B Neil Phillippo
C Jane Buy

South East Single Barrel Championship - 13th May 2018

A good turn out for the South East Single Barrel championship saw some great scores across all categories despite wind, rain and generally miserable conditions. After 5 hours of competition, Jessica Byard was crowned Colt Champion with a very respectable 71/100, Jane Buy was Ladies Champion with 77 and with a 3 way tie at 95/100 were Lee Byard, Bill Logan and Dave Amos. A shoot off was set up to decide the overall champion and veteran Champion and after 25 targets were despatched Bill Logan took 3rd place with 21/25, Dave Amos took Veteran Champion with 23/25 and Lee Byard secured the Champion title with 25/25. It was a great day, enjoyed by all and run smoothly in conjunction with the DTL and Double rise competitions which all went like clockwork thanks to the management, admin and referee team at Mayland Gun Club.

South East DTL Championship 2017

The South East DTL Championship took place on Sunday 25th June at Mayland Gun Club and during a day of mixed weather and great shooting by many contestants, John (the iceman) Maldon managed to put in a very tidy winning score of 100/298 against stiff competition from John Parry who took the Veteran Champion title and Vidas Zilionis who both shot 295. Lewis Smith took the Junior Champion title with a score of 99/292, Karen Allen was crowned ladies champion with 94/279 and Mason Terry shot a brilliant 85/246 in his 1st DTL championship to take the Colt Trophy. A great weekend's shooting and a pleasure to be there to witness it.

Chipperfield Cup Team Trophy 2017

The Chipperfield Cup was held at Bisley on July 2nd for the best 5 man team. "Maylands" was the winning team with a combined score of 490/1451. Great shooting from Troy Petherbridge, Lee Byard, Nicky Waghorne, Mal Grant and Harry Hudson! The cup has been part of Bisley’s competition history since 1st being awarded in 1931, what a list of great shooters must be able to claim their small piece of that history. Well shot all teams in the competition.

Billy Logan Memorial Shoot (Inaugral Event) - 9th July 2017

With contestants in every classification clamouring to be the 1st to add their name to these beautiful and poignant trophy’s in memoriam of our very good friend, father, son and husband, Billy Logan (Jnr) the competition was full weeks previously, with a number of shooters on the waiting list for a place. The weather was glorious and the Mayland Gun Club in immaculate condition ready for a full days competition. Billy would have been immensely proud to have seen so many of his friends and family shooting it out for his trophy and of course of his wonderful children that had made the day so perfect for all of us to remember him and try to get our hands on those trophys. High scores were on the board from the start and made for a nail biting competition right from the beginning. When the dust settled, 3 shooters in 2 classifications had risen to the top and shot themselves into the shoot-off for the main prize. John Aldous in B class, and Geoff Howlett and Troy Petherbridge in A, had all shot the maximum with their handicap scores added. In the shoot off, 1st to falter was Geoff with a barrel and a bird and in the last 5, John barrelled a target leaving Troy just to shoot the last 5 straight, which he did despite telling nerves and shaky hands. A brilliant performance and definitely deserving of taking home the trophy for the 1st time ever and having his name added to what we hope will be a very long running and hard fought competition for many years. Other winners on the day were, Nicky Waghorne in AA Class (99/297), Geoff Howlett in A Class (100/299), John Aldous in B Class (99/296) and Karl weaver in C Class (94/274). Well done everyone, I am sure Billy was smiling down at us all and wishing us all well.

Essex SB Championship - 23rd July 2017

Another great shooting day at Mayland Gun Club saw some tough competition in sometimes very windy and changeable weather conditions for the Essex Single Barrel Championship. Leading the charge on an early squad with a 99/100 was Lee Byard, which eventually could not be bested and led to his 3rd consecutive win since 2015. Peter Hoare managed to take the Veteran title from Dave Lewzey by shooting a 91/100 on the last squad after Dave’s early lead with 90/100. Jane Buy also managed her 1st win in the SB category for ladies with an 83/100 and Jessica Byard won her 3rd consecutive title in the colt category after fending off Newcomer Mason Terry with a very nice 82/100. Well done to all competitors and thanks as always to Mayland for a brilliantly run shoot.

Victoria Trophy - 2017

In a great competition with some equally good scores, the Victoria Trophy for High Gun (DTL) was hoisted by Troy Petherbridge (pictured below) who managed a 99/295, beating Nicky Waghorns and Geoff Howletts 294’s. This is the 3rd time in the last 5 years that Troy has taken this beautiful and prestigious club trophy home, having won it in 2012, 2014 and again today for 2017. Well done to all of the shooters that took part and make the competitions so closely fought.

Eve Groom - Ladies Champion

Jessica Byard - Colts Champion
