H&W S/B, SKT DBLS & CPS CHAMPIONSHIPS – PARK FARM 17TH JULY 2016

H&W had a good turnout for these Championships and this year we had four Colts taking part. Unfortunately we only had one trophy available for the winner of the single barrel to take home but we have been promised trophies for the other disciplines. A very big thank you goes to Rod Davies and Kelly who worked their socks off in the office to get everyone on the appropriate layout and ready to shoot on time, especially as Rod had not done this before. We must not forget all the other people that made the day go smoothly so we must thank Luke, Glen, Rob, Amber and Diane and especially all the members that came to Park Farm to support H&W. As you will see from the scores it was a clash of the Smith's, which caused some amusement.

SINGLE BARREL DTL - Unfortunately this discipline clashed with a very big DTL competition in Ireland so quite a few of our DTL lads were not at Park Farm but even so there were quite a few members taking part. It was our top sporting member Phil Smith who took the trophy home with an excellent score of 48ex50. The runner up spot was a very close thing with the eventual winner John Smith, another sporting shooter, taking the honours on 43, third place on 42 was Roy Spooner. A young man who hasn't been shooting very long, Will Goodman, took the Colts title with an amazing 41. Junior champion with 40 was Brandon Smith and the Veteran title was jointly won by Andrew Foxall and Wes Harris on 40 with Sue Perry taking the Ladies title.

SKEET DOUBLES – It was Phil Smith and John Smith, both finishing on 46ex50 that led the way. A shoot off saw Phil take the county title with John runner up spot after a shoot off. Graeme Walker is Veterans champion on 45, Brandon Smith is Junior champion on 41, with Pat Smith taking the Ladies title. Another young man to watch out for in the future, who hasn't been shooting very long, is Archie Parker-Smith, he shot an amazing 44 to take the colts title.

COMPACT SPORTING – Yet another shoot off took place to decide the County Champion as Tim Smith and Phil Smith both finished on 47ex50. Tim won the shoot off with a 25 straight which happened to be the only one of the day. Taking third place and the Junior title was Brandon Smith on 45 (a brilliant all round shooter) with Wes Harris taking the Veterans title on 43. Hot on dad's heels was young Tom Harris taking the colts title with an exceptional 43, so watch out dad. Unfortunately we had no Ladies on this discipline. The committee have tried very hard for some time to attract Colts and Juniors to H&W competitions and with the help of Park Farm SG, only charging half price, we appear to be getting the message out there.

HEREFORD & WORCESTER SINGLE BARREL COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014

Park Farm SG held this years championship for us with 12 CPSA members taking part.  Although there were only 9 competitors taking part from the County it was a reasonably fought competition, even with the wind making them duck and dive at the most unexpected time.  After the first 50 had been shot it looked like the outcome was going to be between Rob Haines and Paul Colley.  But it was Rob that took the honours after Paul had a few pass him by on the 3rd round.  Rob also had the only 25 straight which came on his 3rd round.  Rob finished with 93ex100 to take the County title and also the Veterans title.  Paul Colley with his 84ex100 was runner up.  The Junior title went to David Lloyd with the Ladies title going to Pat Smith both finishing on 68ex100.  As David is mainly a Sporting shooter and Pat a Skeet shooter I think they were both pleased with their scores overall.  Thank you to Phil and Di and also to the refs, Lisa and Jack but not forgetting Sarah who fed and watered us.

I realised after I got home that there was only 2 seniors among the competitors !!!!!!!!!

1st - 93ex100 - Rob Haines - County Champion and Veterans Champion

HEREFORD & WORCESTER COUNTY SINGLE BARREL & DOUBLE RISE CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS FOR 23RD SEPTEMBER 2012 HELD AT MID WALES SG

Mid Wales provided a great venue for the Single Barrel and the Double Rise with some good weather in the morning but the afternoon was a different story!  However also please note the sausages have changed on the breakfast menu as well since I was last down there.  Rain set in at about 1pm and it kept raining until we left the ground, in fact I expect it is still raining in Wales now.  A few people shot 100 DTL then 100 Single Barrel then 100 Double Rise just to keep the cartridge manufactures in business.  This was also an Area event across two disciplines, Single Barrel & Double Rise so it attracted quite a few shooters from other Counties and we managed to field nine shooters from H&W in the Single Barrel.  The event was fairly close and both myself (Rod Davies) and Jason Price both ended up on 95/100.  We then had a shoot off at the end of the day after getting wet shooting the Double Rise in the rain.  Jason mssed a bird fairly early on in the shoot off but I managed to get to the last bird before I missed!!  Last bird miss, I must chat to Paul Cerri about that.  However as we have already shot 325 targets and we were both cold and wet plus it was getting nearly dark we decided to agree to share the County Championship so both names will go on the trophy for 2012 rather than toss a coin which is not the proper way to decide such an event.

The Hereford & Worcester Single Barrel Championship scores are as follows:-

95/100 Rod Davies - Joint Champion

95/100 Jason Price - Joint Champion

94/100 Rod Haines - Veterans Champion

94/100 Chris Moule

91/100 Lee Kirby

89/100 Paul Cerri

81/100 Phil Sanders

76/100 Dan Cooper

72/100 Lisa Sanders - Ladies Champion

Rob Haines won the Silver medal in the Area Veterans class and was only 2 clays behind the winner.

The Double Rise is an interesting discipline and not for the faint hearted as you get a double DTL type bird from each peg, so shooting 25 pairs on each round.  Then repeat this again to get your score out of 100.  This quite difficult discipline was not helped by the very bad weather conditions after lunch when we tried to see through out glasses whilst rain poured down them.

No such problems with glasses at the Olympics then!

Only five members shot the Double Rise under these difficult conditions from H&W and their scores were as follows:-

87/100 Rod Davies - County Champion

82/100 Chris Moule - Runner Up

72/100 Phil Sanders

62/100 Lisa Sanders - Ladies Champion

54/100 Dan Cooper

I (Rod) also won the Senior Area Silver medal for my efforts, so quite a pleasing result.

There were no Juniors or Veterans in this event.

COUNTY DOUBLE RISE AND SINGLE BARREL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

Hereford & Worcester double rise and single Barrel was held again this year at Mid Wales Shooting ground.  We had a very poor turnout of shooters for our official competition, three in the double rise and seven in the single barrel.  A local unofficial event for the same discipline was held at Park Farm shooting ground near Worcester with a turnout of 56 shooters.  This proves the point that our local shooters will not travel a long distance to support the county in our championships.  Park Farm SG provides quality testing targets and is easily accessible for all our members but sadly it is not registered for various reasons.  Despite the poor turnout the shoot was enjoyed by all as Mid Wales were also holding the West Midlands and Welsh championships for the same discipline.  The conditions were bright but very windy which was making the targets react accordingly.  The double rise was won again by Lee Betts with 88 with Phil Sanders runner up on on 67.  Laura Betts won the Junior and Ladies with 54.  The single Barrel has a new name on the cup after Nick Stokes shot 93 in difficult conditions.  This was followed by Paul Cerri and Jason Price on 92.  Paul Cerri had a consolation prize of being High Gun on the DTL competition held on the same day with a well shot 100/297.   Laura Betts and Jackie Cotton tied on 82, there was no shoot off so Jackie will have the ladies and Laura the Junior title.
As ever thank you to Arthur and Rita and all the staff at Mid Wales.

H&W SINGLE BARREL & DOUBLE RISE COUNTY

CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010

This year’s single barrel and double rise county championships was a joint event held in conjunction with the Welsh open at Mid Wales SG. H&W shooters had the opportunity to win not only the county event but also the Welsh open titles at no extra cost. This year’s double rise and single barrel was changed to a 100 target shoot as last year’s was only 50.  The single barrel competition at the half way stage was very close with Paul Cerri on 50 straight and Jason Young just behind on 49, a score which would have won last year’s shoot.  At the 75 stage Paul had dropped two targets but Jason was still only one away and it was all down to the last round. Jason dropped another three targets to finish on 96. Paul went on to straight the round and finished on 98 to become the H&W Single Barrel champion for the third year running. As a bonus Paul was in joint high gun position for the Welsh open title with Phil Morgan. (Wales top trap shooter) They had a shoot off for the cup but Phil won with 24 against Paul’s 23. Rob Haines was our veteran champion with 94 and Laura Betts was Junior and ladies champion with 67.  Results: County Champion Paul Cerri 98/100, runner up Jason Young 96 and third place Rod Davies 95/100. The Double Rise competition was very wind affected and to make matters worse the trap was having constant problems causing delays and interruptions to the squads. Despite this and a very late finish we got there in the end. Our winner with a very well shot 87 was Lee Betts. With this score he also came second in the Welsh open competition losing out to Paul Chaplow shootinga very fine 97. Paul gave everyone a demonstration on how to shoot double rise with a perfect 50 straight on his second round. Laura Betts won the ladies and Junior Titles with 67. A great day for Laura gaining the single barrel, double rise, ladies and junior titles and still only 13. This is a young lady with a great future in the sport. John Hadley won the veterans with a very well shot 70. Results: County Champion Lee Betts 87, runner up Rod Davies 75, joint 3rd place Jason Young and John Hadley 70 with John also taking the veterans title.   Ladies Champion and Junior Champion is Laura Betts 67.

WEST MIDLANDS AREA SINGLE BARREL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010

The West Midlands Area Single Barrel Championships were held at Mid Wales Shooting Centre on Sunday 12th September.  There looked to be a poor turnout from the Area but Hereford & Worcester's Laura Betts came away with both the Ladies title and the Junior title with a very impresive 90/100.  Well done Laura.

WEST MIDLANDS ARE DOUBLE RISE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010

The Double Rise Championships were held on the same day as the single barrel, and again a poor turnout for this event.  Even so the Betts family were on form with Senior Lee Betts coming away in third place with 84/100, an event that is not seen in H&W.  Well done Lee.

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hereford & Worcester County Championship Single Barrel & Double Rise Competition held at Mid Wales Shooting Centre.

This was also the same venue for the Area, and Inter County event, so there should have been plenty of people around.

However there were not too many shooters at the event, and as we had only agreed to shoot 50 Single Barrel, and 50 Double Rise as we did last year there were no Hereford & Worcester members that entered both competitions which was a pity.

Maybe next year we can agree to shoot 100 of each so that it matches the Inter County and Area event.

However those that attended were treated to a well run event with perfect DTL targets for the Single Barrel, only the wind was to blame for some missed clays!

Single Barrel:

In the end there had to be a shoot off for the County Champion in the Single Barrel with Lee Betts, and Paul Cerri both on 48 out of 50 which was very good shooting.

In was then down to Paul Cerri to show us his skill with the Kriegoff and so take the Champions medal from Lee Betts.

There were then 4 shooters tied on 46 so we decided not to have a shoot off for third as only the winner of each category gets a badge anyway, and as John Hadley was one of these shooters he wins the Veterans Championship.

The Ladies Championship was won by Laura Betts with a very respectable score of 39, and our Junior Champion was Bradley Strain.

Double Rise:

This was a very tricky event, and I can tell you I personally made a real mess of it. I had to be rightly told off by Graham Betts for throwing cartridges in the bin too fast, but despite my errors Bradley Strain put in an excellent 41 ex 50, which was an outstanding score, however as this was his second go it didn’t count. Never mind next year we hope you can shoot over 100 clays, and then you will really show us how to do it.

The County Champion was Jason Price with a well deserved 39, and he was closely followed by Lee Betts, and Jason Young just one point behind on 38.

Bradley went on to win the Junior Championship, and Laura Betts won the Ladies Championship, with her Grandfather Graham Betts winning the Veterans Championship by 1 point from John Hadley.

There was an excellent atmosphere again at Mid Wales, and as ever excellent food, well worth the travelling. Can I also personally thank all those shooters who thanked me for my efforts as Chairman, it was really good to be appreciated, and when young shooters like Bradley achieve such good results it also makes all the work I do for Hereford & Worcester CPSA worthwhile.
