There were thirty eight members from H&W to compete for these Championships with some new members and a few who have been members for a while.  Julian Morris is the County Champion with a score of 93ex100.  Runner up and Veteran Champion is Roger Ward on 90ex100 and in third place is Jason Taylor on 89.  Natalie Jones put in a very good 79 to take the Ladies title with Tom Harris taking the Juniors with an excellent 87 (I noticed you beat dad-sorry Wes) and young Alfie Mann won the Colts with a score of 59.  Not sure if anyone took any photo's.  Please email them to Pat Smith if you did.

Our thanks to Tim Smith for allowing us to shoot at this very beautiful ground with very good targets. For those of us that (a)don't shoot sporting and (b)not familiar with a side x side and with a double trigger, it was an 'experience'.

HEREFORD & WORCESTER SPORTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017
The Hereford and Worcester County Sporting competition took place on 2nd April. A challenging course set by Steve Nutbeam and his team at Longridge SG. It was enjoyed by no less than 46 H&W shooters.  Weather conditions were favourable for early April and it was good to see a big turnout for our county shoot. Winners were:- Senior+County Champion Phil Smith on 93, closely followed by Julian Morris on 91. Ladies champion Jane Taylor on 73 (shooting better and better with her new gun). A good solid 84 from Brandon Smith won him the Junior champion. Will Goodman is our county colt champion on 68, and last but not least Tim Smith is our veteran champion still shooting well on 86. Our thanks go to Longridge and all who supported the county with their attendance. (Wes Harris)

HEREFORD & WORCESTER COUNTY ENGLISH SPORTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

This year the Championship was held at Park Farm SG on Sunday 29th March and we thank the HULL CARTIDGE COMPANY for sponsorship to this event and also to Park Farm for holding this competition, their very first registered sporting.  The weather was atrocious with very heavy showers and very gusty-Gail force winds.  Not a good day to shoot any discipline and for those of you that turned out to support us, we thank you.  But spare a thought for all the referees who volunteered for us, so a very special thank you to them.  This year brought out more H&W members than ever before, 47 in all so a very big thank you to you as well.  We were especially delighted to see ten County Juniors attend the shoot and it was difficult, at one point, to see who the winner was going to be.  Out of all the entries we had, 111 in total, there was no one in the 90’s.  The highest in H&W and County Champion is Chris Moule with 86ex100 (and second overall on the day) with Phil Smith in second place with 83.  Close behind with 81 was Mike Bartlett and Nick Rees with 79.  The Ladies entry was very disappointing with only two from the five that entered from H&W and it was Jane Taylor that took the title with 60ex100.  We had quite a few Veterans attending with the eventual winner, Paul Colley on 76.  We were surprised but delighted at the amount of Juniors taking part and it wasn’t until later in the day we knew who the champion was, as the scores were very close.  Charles Lilwall was the eventual winner with a score of 66, but as he had left the ground he wasn’t there to pick the beautiful trophy up.  Following close behind with 64 was Matt Dyson, George Jones with 63, Harry Madeley and Jack Lilwall both on 62.  We also had two colts there with the eventual winner Tom Betts with 59.  In the open the High Gun was Nick Dean from Staffordshire finishing on 89, second Chris Moule and third place went to Clynt Warren from Gloucestershire.   High Gun won the 1000 Hull cartridges with 1st and 2nd in each class going home with 250.  A raffle was held on the day with the final amount of £162 going to H&W funds.  The levies and monies from the volunteer referees made H&W a substantial amount for their funds. We would also like to thank Sarah, Gill, Lisa, Di, Phil, Luke, Dan and Jack.

COTSWOLD SHOOTING GROUND

The Cotswold Shooting Ground held their annual Walk Back Competition on Saturday 13th September 2014, with amazing success.  The top ten Gents, top 3 Ladies and top Junior over the Sporting during the day went into the Walk Back competition for the Annual Trophy (shooting a Teal) starting at 30m and walk back every 5m.  This competition is growing every year and has an amazing atmosphere!  It is tough to even get into as everyone is so competetive.  The top scores on the Sporting were really close.  We are so happy to tell you that Jackie Cotton won it, at 45m and the runners up are Richard Webb and Mark Thomas.  The day was fantastic and we are so chufft a Lady won it.  (Emily Perry)  The next shoot will be on 4th October, entries 10.30am - 1pm (50 or 70 bird Sporting)  www.clay-pigeon-shooting-cotswolds.co.uk - 07807 440273

HEREFORD & WORCESTER COUNTY SPORTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013

21 Hereford & Worcester members attended the County Sporting Championships at Longridge SG on Sunday 16th June.   The day was dry enough with only a few slight showers so everyone managed to shoot without getting too wet.  Steve Nutbeam put on an interesting course but I was pleased I was only shooting with the camera as I know there were some tricky clays out there.  Matt Pugh for a few on one stand.  Our County Champion was Phil Smith with an excellent 93 only one clay ahead of the Jason's - Holden and Taylor on 92.  They will get a joint second place badge.  Matt Pugh and Wes Harris finished just behind on 89.  Our Ladies County Champion was Jane Taylor with a well deserved 70.  If there was a prize for the Husband and Wife team I am sure Jason and Jane would get it unless Brian and Pat want to give them a challenge next time.  Our Veteran County Champion was Ron Braithwaite on 77, he was followed on 68 by Mike Warden.  Jim Stubbs, an ex CPSA member arrived in style to show off his new car to another Veteran Bob Williams (see photo).  Bob just needs to save up the £30,000 for this vintage Morgan.  We had a new Junior (Colt) shoot with us and he won the Junior County Champion badge on 75!  Well done James Lewis.  James shoots with the schools Academy at Bredon School and is proof that coaching and support in young shots is working well.  Another Colt, George Jones turned up to shoot so I hope to recruit both of these youngsters into our Junior teams for 2013 so watch out for their successes.  George brought with him a very good shooter, Ian Parkinson that some of you will remember from a few years ago.  Ian is making a thankful return to shooting after a serious accident stopped him from shooting for a few years.  Ian is now set to conquer us all.    Dan Cooper also turned out for a second outing at Sporting and was pleased to get the highest Hereford & Worcester score in 'C' class.   Can I thank Steve Nutbeam and all his staff for another successful County Championship.  (REPORT FROM ROD DAVIES)

Hereford & Worcester County Sporting Championship Results for 29th July 2012 held at Longridge Shooting Ground

Steve Nutbeam set an interesting course for our Sporting Championship that was a shared Sporting Championship with Gloucestershire.  As normal Steve set up some clays that looked easy, but as ever they ended up not being that easy! There were 25 Hereford & Worcester shooters at the event and everyone seemed to enjoy the day, so many thanks to Steve and all his Staff at Longridge for an excellent event.

Many thanks also must go to all the members who brought along prizes for the raffle and to my Daughter Victoria for spending 7 hours in the gazebo selling tickets. These funds along with the levies collected from the shoots go towards buying our County Championship badges.  Hereford & Worcester ended up with two shooters tied on 87 for the County Champion position, Phil Smith and Julian Morris but as Julian had left Phil has decided to have a shoot off when they meet at the World event in a few weeks time to decide who will be our County Champion based on their scores out of 200 at the World event.  Third place was another tie so both Matt Pugh and Peter Hughes will share the third place.

There were no Juniors shooting for us and this is a very worrying trend!  Juniors are the future so the committee will be looking at ways to encourage some more Juniors to attend our events for the rest of this year and into next season.

Ladies Champion was Dee Ward with 66 just ahead of Jane Taylor on 61.

The Veterans Champion is also to be decided as Mick Warden and Ron Braithwaite both scored a very commendable 70 and were not around for a shoot off, these two were just ahead of Roger Ward on 67.

There were a few new members that we don’t have on our system so if you have just joined the CPSA please contact myself or Pat Smith so we can add you to our County lists.

WEST MIDLANDS INTER-COUNTIES SPORTING
This competition was held at Longridge SG, Gloucestershire on Sunday 25th September and the day started with moderate rain (you know the really wet stuff!) which continued until lunchtime when the sun came out and the wind dropped. There was a great turnout for the shoot with over 250 shooters shooting over 13 stands.  It did mean that there was a lot of hanging round which did not suit everyone.  Steve had lived up to his reputation for throwing deceptive targets and the shoot results showed that all was not what it seemed!  It definitely toughened up as you turned the corner at the top of the ground.  Congratulations to Brett Hand who shot an outstanding 95!  H&W had mixed fortunes, with the Juniors - Scott Bower, Charlie Sadler and Max Rollason and Veterans Mike Warden, Graham Betts and Gerald Crump struggling against some very experienced shots whilst the Seniors - Nick Rees; Lee Betts; Pete Hughes; Matt Pugh; Phil Smith; Pete Tolley; Jason Holden; Wes Harris; Dave Moreing and Jason Taylor were tied for third with Gloucestershire.  The masters shoot off would decide the third place team overall.  Phil Smith (H&W) and Steve Lovatt (Glous) shot off for the masters title, which was won by Brett Hand (Staffs) with Phil beating Steve which secured third place overall for H&W seniors.  The Ladies - Jane Taylor, Linden Partridge and Becky Sealey won Gold by a single point from Warwickshire.  High gun for H&W was Phil Smith on an 89.  Thanks to all that made the trip and endured the long wait between stands. (thanks to Linden Partridge for this report and also Jane Taylor)

COUNTY ENGLISH SPORTING  2011

We would like to thank Stephen Nutbeam and all his staff for helping us out with our sporting county championship at Longridge SG, Gloucestershire on Monday 29th August.  As you would expect at Longridge the targets were extremely good with a couple of stands at the top end of the layout sorting quite a few shooters out.  The weather was good to us and there was a lot of friendly banter going on at the club house and around the ground.  County Champion is Phil Smith 93/100, 2nd place and veterans champion, a good all round shooter is Graham Betts 85/100, 3rd place was shared between Jason Taylor and Simon Jones both with 83/100.  The colts champion is Charlie Sadler with a good score of 74 and ladies champion is Becky Sealey on 76.  Junior champion is Scott Bower on 69 which is an exceptionally good score at Longridge bearing in mind this young man has only been shooting for about four months.  Well done to all of you, and thanks to all H&W shooters who turned out on a bank holiday.

H&W ENGLISH SPORTING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010

Matt Pugh receiving the H&W Sporting trophy from Stephen Nutbeam

The County Sporting Championships took place at Longridge SG on Sunday 16th May with a very varied and testing course.  A bright hot sunny day brought out a good entry.  Early on the leader board was Peter Tolley with a good 87 but almost the last card of the day was Matt Pugh who took County High Gun with a massive 90.  The Ladies and Juniors was a family affair with John Preece taking the Junior title on 80 beating his big sister Janine Preece by one clay on 79 which gave her the Ladies title.  The shooter of the day came from 13 year old Charlie Sadler shooting an exceptional 77 to take the colts and also taking 1st place in 'C' class.  The Veterans title went to Graham Betts shooting a very good 82.  A personal best came from Dave Moreing taking 'B' class with 84.  Our thanks to Stephen Nutbeam and all his staff for a very enjoyable day.
