WM AREA & I/C All Round Championships

It was great to see all the members who turned out to represent H&W at the Area & I/C All Round Championship at Fauxdegla on 24th April.  I appreciate it was a long way to travel and I hope everyone enjoyed the day.  It was a very wild old place on the top of that mountain and scores were a little lower than expected due to windy conditions.  We managed to enter teams in ALL the categories.  Full scores and photos are on H&W website.  I was very pleased with the efforts of our youngsters who shot incredibly well considering their experience of some of the disciplines.  Brandon Smith shot a brilliant 85 and Emma Parkinson an excellent 79.  Brandon won WM Area Junior Champion award along with some money from his class.  He also was part of the Juniors Bronze medal winning Team along with George Jones and first time County Team shooter William Goodman.  Emma Parkinson won joint Silver in the Ladies Area event and was partnered by Pat Smith to take 4th place in the Ladies Team event.  Brian Smith and Martin Moss also picked up Bronze medals in the Veterans event.  Our Senior Team sadly ended up just outside the medals in 4th place which I have to take some of the blame for as I shot incredibly badly on the day.  The only medals I got close to were the ones I presented at the end.  I would like to thank Nick Stokes for organising the Area &I/C medals. (Rod Davies)

WM Area English Sporting Championships

Garlands held this championship on 17th April with 12 members from H&W taking part.  The highest senior from the county was Phil Smith on 90 but it was Dee Ward one of our lady shooters that came away with the Ladies Gold medal with a score of 70.

WM Area & I/C ABT Championships

These championships were held at Rugby & DTC on 10th April.  Unfortunately there were long delays due to trap breakdowns but this wasn’t a problem for the H&W team as they went on to win the Gold medal 437/500, just two clays ahead of second place Staffordshire.    There were twelve members from the county with Nick Dean taking the Area Senior Gold medal on 96 with Richard Allen in third with 91.  Ladies Gold went to Jo-Ann Allen on 85 with Lisa Sanders winning Silver on 80.  An 89 from Andy Foxall gave him the Gold in the Veterans.  Unfortunately we had no juniors taking part.

H&W County Championships

Please don’t forget that all championships at Park Farm are telephone entries only, so don’t delay to avoid disappointment.

THE 5TH CPSA ANNUAL AWARDS

These awards took place on the 19th March with two categories being nominated from H&W.  We were very pleased to hear that ‘Club of the Year’ went to well-deserved Park Farm SG based in Ombersley and run, very efficiently, by the Sanders family.  For those that have not been to this ground, it’s well worth a visit.  www.parkfarmshoot.co.uk

Also nominated in the ‘Young Shot of the Year’ category from H&W was 16 year old Jack Ruane.  Jack has only been shooting for two years but in that time has achieved many awards including a magnificent 100/300 at DTL, the youngest CPSA member ever to achieve this.  Unfortunately he didn’t win on this occasion but we congratulate him for being nominated for this award.

WEST MIDLAND AREA DTL CHAMPIONSHIPS (report from Andy Foxall)

The WM Area DTL competition took place at Mid Wales SG on Sunday 27th March which resulted in some very commendable scores from all the H/W shooters.  The weather conditions were challenging to say the least with rain and very blustery conditions throughout, with the odd lucky squad getting a few very welcome rays of sunshine.  High Gun, Area Champion and first in AA class went to Chris Moule with an exceptional score of 100/299 so very well done Chris.  Individual scores were Lee Kirby Silver AA 99/296, Rob Haines 1st Vets 99/294, Jack Ruane 1st Juniors 96/285, Paul Cerri 96/285, Russell Vaughan 96/284, Andy Foxall 96/281, Dan Price 97/280, Jason Price 94/275, Mike Perry 93/273, John Boraston 90/262 and Sue Perry 89/258 Ladies Silver.  Thank you everyone who attended the shoot and many thanks to Arthur Williams and all the Mid Wales team for letting us stage the event at their ground and for keeping everyone fed and watered.

COMMITTEE

We are very pleased that Andrew Foxall has been co-opted onto the H&W committee and will take responsibility as DTL Manager.  The other team Managers are Matt Pugh – Sporting & FITASC, Wes Harris/Rod Davies – All Round, Pat Smith – Skeet and Nick Stokes – OT, UT and DT.  The ABT Manager is yet to be decided.  The WM Area representatives are Rod Davies and Nick Stokes.

JUNIORS

At the recent H&W committee meeting it was agreed that we will put aside £100 per junior toward lessons and cartridges for any junior novice that is interested in shooting the ABT discipline.  There are limited places so If interested please contact Rod Davies on 07967 196661.

INTER-COUNTY TEAM NUMBERS

It was decided at the last WM Area meeting that all IC senior team numbers will consist of 6 with 5 to count except Olympic Skeet which will be 3 with 2 to count.  The ladies, junior and veterans remain the same at 3 with 2 to count.  Also counties may add a ‘B’ team if space permits AFTER all counties wishing to enter an ‘A’ team have done so.  ‘B’ teams can win medals but do not count for Lyalvale Shield points.

ROYAL BERKSHIRE SHOOTING SCHOOL

The winner of the Rolex 50 sporting shoot on 16th February at the Royal Berkshire Shooting School was Phil Smith with a score of 43 ex 50.  He took home a Rolex GMT II worth more than £5,000.  In third place with 41 was Matt Pugh.  In the Browning & Stratstone Ultimate Pair competition Matt came a credible 6th.  Well done to both of you.

DTL WINTER SERIES (report from Andy Foxall)

It was a bright, dry day at Mid Wales SG on Sunday 13th March which saw the 6th and final Krieghoff DTL winter series competition taking place.  H&W shooter Chris Moule won the overall prize of a free entry to the Krieghoff DTL competition at Mid Wales later this year, so very well done Chris.  Although there were excellent scores from many of the H&W shooters, one in particular was from Dan Price who in his first registered DTL shoot achieved 100/297 finishing 4th overall which was a fantastic achievement, so well done Dan I am sure there will be a lot more to follow!!  Other H&W scores were 3rd AA - Lee Kirby 100/298, 4th AA - Dan Price 100/297, 6th A - Jason Price 100/296, 6th A - Russell Vaughan 100/296, 10th AA - Chris Moule 99/295, 21st AA - Rob Haines 98/291, 26th AA - Paul Cerri 97/288 and Jack Ruane A class - 96/283.
