National Sporting Inter County Report
Norfolk put together a second sporting team to participate in this years national sporting inter county finals held at Barrowheath Shooting Ground in Suffolk. The event was held over two days with squadded entries on the Saturday 4th October and open entries on the Sunday the 5th October. There were many shooters attending with teams from as far away as Yorkshire, Surrey, Essex and Greater London just a handful to list. The Norfolk senior sporting team was made up with the following shooters and there scores:
P. Howe 77
M. Goddard 83
K. Woodhall-Cross 77
T. Page 75
M. Briggs 72
R. Townsend 65
The Norfolk senior team ended up with a team total of 384 with the top 5 out of 6 scores to count. The winning senior team was the local favourites and our great rivals Suffolk who managed to add this years National Inter County Final to there recent win at the East Midlands Inter County Final with 417. The senior runner up team was Yorkshire with a total of 410.
Unfortunately the veterans team had to be sacrificed and some late changes had to be made due to several shooters pulling out at the last minute. At the last minute we had 2 veterans, 1 senior and a lady pull out. I tried to contact a few people who I had contacts for but due to it being so late I could not salvage and piece full teams together apart from a senior team.
The ladies team managed a team total of 105 but the winners were Yorkshire with an impressive score of 149 to take the National ladies title. The runner up team was Suffolk with 139. The Norfolk ladies scores were:
G. Tillson 58
A. Davey 47
With the juniors we had G. Townsend and C. Soanes representing Norfolk. The two juniors managed a team total of 128. The winning junior team was Suffolk with a very impressive score of 153. The runner up junior team was Cambridgeshire and they were very close to forcing a shoot off for the junior team total with only a single target between them and the Suffolk juniors with there 152. The juniors scores were:
G. Townsend 75
C. Soanes 53
I would like to thank all the Norfolk shooters within the teams for attending this event. It is a shame that we couldn't field full teams in every category to give our county the best chance of competing against some of the best county teams out there. We as a county have some very talented shooters who are capable of shooting some great scores for there county but it is very hard to try and put these teams together.
Hopefully we can make some changes for next year that will help the county when it comes to fielding teams or we may end up with no shooting team at all. It is proposed that for next years inter county, the teams will not have to be selected from the qualifying county shoots and so it will be up to the team managers discretion who will be selected for county shoots.
