Russell Houghton Wins East Midlands Double Rise
Norfolk's very own Russell Houghton traveled all the way over to Nottingham & District Gun Club for the East Midlands Double Rise Championship on the 9th April and won against some of the best trap shooters in the East Midlands.
Russell has been shooting trap disciplines for many years and he is dare I say, one of the best trap shooters in the Country. Russell managed to shoot 50 out of 50 on his last layout to secure the title by a single target over Nottinghamshire trap legend Ken Rimington. This title has never been held by a Norfolk shooter in the 50+ years that this discipline has been going for.
Russell finished on 90/100 and after his first 50 targets he was in 9th place after dropping 10 targets. Ken Rimington was leading after the first 50 targets where he was leading with his score of 43/50. Trap shooting is normally very close with a single point of clay between first and a few places down but this is still an incredible achievement to straight 50 double rise and what a time to do it at the East Midlands Double Rise Championship.
Ken Rimington managed to come away with the Veteran title with his score of 89/100. The Ladies title went to Cambridgeshire shooter Hazel Whiten with her score of 74/100. The Juniors was won by Nottinghamshires George Lewis after a shoot off with Jack Richards. Both youngsters finished on 85/100 and George just piped Jack in the shoot off 43/50 to Jacks 35/50.
