April Pull! Report - 2018

The 2018 Norfolk AGM was held at Mid Norfolk SG on February 2. We said goodbye and thank you to Paddy Howe and Paul Watson for all their hard work over the years, as they decided to step down from the Norfolk Committee. I would like to welcome two new members who have joined the Committee: Audrey Smith and Elise Dixon. I look forward to working with you this year. I’d also like to congratulate the Norfolk Supreme Champions for 2017: Senior Russell Houghton, Veteran Mike Eales and Lady Audrey Smith. Winter seems to be dragging on this year and, with it, not much action has taken place. I’ve had no reports from any of the Norfolk Senior shooters, so I assume you are all waiting for the better weather before venturing out to the clay grounds? In contrast, I have some reports in from our Norfolk Juniors. It has been a busy time for Norfolk’s Junior Trap shooters. William Gilbert has been training at the Priory Clay Target Centre with his new DT11, in preparation for his first Olympic Trap competition of the season. We wish him luck and will report back on how he has been performing throughout the year. Elise Dixon has been a regular at Beverley CTC, having competed in two competitions during February: Universal Trench and Olympic Trap. At the Universal Trench event, there were two challenging schemes used and the wind kept the clays going for what seemed like miles! Elise performed well, with consistent scores, and going into the last round it was neck-and-neck for the D Class win. Elise rose to the challenge, putting in a solid 22 to secure her first D Class on 80 ex 100. The Olympic Trap competition was a milder day. Whilst the journey from Norfolk to Yorkshire was a frosty one, the day turned out to be calm and sunny, making for some pleasant shooting. Elise struggled on the first round, putting in a 16. With some reflection, Elise went into rounds two and three with a positive mind, putting in two solid 20s. The wind picked up as the final round began, making the targets more challenging than those of the morning’s rounds. However, Elise still put in a 19 and so finished the day with a new personal best of 75 ex 100. Good preparation for Elise’s next International OT competition, Portugal in March. I look forward to reporting on these up-andcoming Juniors throughout the year. If you know of any Norfolk Juniors shooting any discipline, I would love to hear from you. Keith Barter
