January Pull! Report - 2022

Season’s Greetings and a Happy New Year to you all. 2021 was a year of uncertainty for many, but clay shooting was able to restart safely with some restrictions in place. At the start of the year there was some concern as to whether the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions would affect our plans for a full calendar. We were, however, fortunate to be able to hold all our usual championships. Congratulations to all the County winners and to everyone who was selected to represent their county, region, or country. There were a lot of great results, proving that we have some of the best shooters in the country across the disciplines.

10 Oct: Norfolk All Round and Dennis Rudd Memorial, Eriswell Lodge This competition was attended by 54 shooters, with 33 from Norfolk. A much-improved turnout from the 20 who competed last year. The changing light and weather conditions made for some challenging targets, but only three managed to get away from the Overall High Gun and County Champion Mark Goddard. Our congratulations to Mark on an excellent score and a well deserved win. Congratulations to the other category winners Alison Coupe in Ladies, Richard Gilbert in Veterans, and William Gilbert in Juniors. Thank you to Stuart and all the staff at Eriswell Lodge for hosting this event and for fitting us in at such short notice. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

24 Oct: East Midlands Inter-Counties ABT Championship, Nottingham & DGC Congratulations and thank you to the Norfolk ABT Team members who travelled to Nottingham on a rather wet, windy, and overcast day. Some tough conditions for the final inter counties championship this year, but there were smiles all round as the whole team returned home with glassware. The Senior team of Niall Crumpler, Jason Matthewson, Simon Owen, Paul Owen, and Richard Sutterby were Runners-up to a very strong Cambridgeshire team. Jason Matthewson was the top scorer for Norfolk with 95, which placed him joint second Overall. The Veterans team of Ray Daws, Robert Flowers, and Richard Gilbert beat Lincolnshire into second place by the smallest of margins – one point. Robert’s score of 93 placed him joint first in Veterans. Juniors William Gilbert and William Nicholas both shot well. Unfortunately, there was only one other Junior competing, so their win was assured. William Gilbert’s score of 92 also won him the Junior High Gun title.

24 Oct: Norfolk County HBD Championship, The Priory CTC Sadly, there were only three Norfolk entrants in this competition, which was the last County Championship of the season. Congratulations to David Beales, who won both the Overall and Veterans High Gun titles with a score of 85/246. Thank you to Aaron and Natasha Heading, and the Priory CTC team for hosting this and other County and Regional Championships throughout 2021.

Norfolk County Supreme Champions This competition is open to Norfolk County shooters, who must shoot a minimum of three of the nine listed County Championships to be eligible to win. Our congratulations to the 2021 winners: Overall Jason Matthewson, Veterans John Reynolds, Ladies Thaleia Jennings, and Junior William Gilbert.

Norfolk County CPSA AGM The Norfolk Committee would like to invite all County members to attend the AGM. This will be held at Chalk Farm Clay Ground on the evening of the 18 January 2022. We look forward to seeing you there, and at next year’s County and Regional Championships.
