Norfolk Sporting Championship

Norfolk Sporting Championship

The Norfolk Sporting Championship was held at Barrow Sporting Clays on the 24th July with an entry of 170 shooters on the day with the Norfolk entry of 71 shooters all trying to win this prestigious championship which most of the top shots have either won or have come so close throughout the years.

It was a great day with some nice targets where a slip in concentration in the 30 degree heat would let a few clays slip away quiet easily combined with a slight breeze later in the day which made the middle stands challenging at times.

Stand 10 had a testing left to right midi high above the tree line roughly 50+ yards out which several shooters couldn’t find the right lead before dropping a few clays.

Stand 12 had a left to right quartering away target with a right to left rabbit simultaneous pair which I saw several shooters drop clays on the rabbit target.

Overall it was a lovely day seeing so many familiar faces and lots of shooters socialising at the clubhouse and around the ground which is always nice to see at any event not just county championships. Shooting isn’t just about hitting a high score, the social aspect is a great addition as we all want to discuss how we got on with hitting them all or how we missed a couple etc.

This years Norfolk Sporting champion is Carson Revell with a decent score of 95/100.

Veterans champion is Paul Owen with 86/100

Ladies Champion is newcomer Kate Benstead with 75/100

Junior Champion is Angus Hepworth-Smith with his score of 88/100

Other Senior note worthy scores: Karl Hagan 93, Jake Moore 93, Jason Matthewson 92, Mark Goddard 92, Jonathon Balls 91, Stephen Hall 90 and Dominic Green 90. Veterans note worthy scores: Barry Green 81, and Philip Soanes 80

Thank you to everyone who came and shot today’s championship, your continuous support helps us to keep these shoots going each year. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved with running and refereeing this championship at Barrow Sporting Clays, the shoot ran like clockwork and all the shooters I spoke with on the day had a good day.
