Norfolk Down The Line Championship

The Norfolk Down The Line was held at The Priory Clay Target Centre on the 7th May where the Norfolk Championship was joined with the Basil Pearce Memorial. There was an entry of 39 shooters who had all booked in to try and win the Norfolk DTL title and for the Basil Pearce memorial. Many who knew Basil know how much he loved his trap shooting. I have heard many stories about Basil although I never met him when my shooting journey started but I know he used to shoot with my grandfather many years ago.

This years Norfolk DTL & Basil Pearce Memorial champion is Russell Houghton who managed to hold off D. Mclean by a single point with his score of 98/293 enough to secure this title for Russell for the second time where he last won the title back in 1995. This is the second Norfolk title this year for Russell who is in fine form where he also won the East Midlands Double Rise back in April. Russell's brother Neil won the Norfolk DTL Championship back in 2003 and Russell's father who is also a keen DTL shooter also won this Championship back in 1981 and 1983. This just goes to show how good the Houghton family is with their trap shooting abilities.

The Veterans title this year was a hard fought out contest between John Reynolds and Richard Gilbert who both shot in the same squad and tied on the same number of points of 282. After a 25 bird shoot off Richard managed to claim the Norfolk DTL Veteran title from John who managed to win this the previous year. I managed to video most of the shoot off which can be found on the Norfolk CPSA Facebook page.

This years Ladies DTL champion is Audrey Smith who managed to retain her title for the second year in a row. Audrey managed to score 73/219 to secure the ladies title once again.

We would like to thank The Priory Clay Target Centre for holding the Norfolk DTL Championship and the Basil Pearce Memorial. We would also like to thank Basil's widow Pam for presenting the Basil Pearce Memorial trophy and to all the shooters who continue to support our shoots.
