Park Lodge Charity Shoot (by Terry Deakin)
Park Lodge Charity Shoot (by Terry Deakin)
Shaun Bramley set an early pace at the 120 target Charity Shoot held at Park Lodge SS on Sunday 22nd April - writes Terry Deakin - and his score of 110 was sufficient to take the winning prize money in very testing conditions of squally showers interspersed with bright sunshine. The shoot - in aid of Prostrate Cancer, supported by Goole Round Table - raised in excess of £4000 for this very worthwhile charity, a figure that ground owner Tom Bayston was delighted to achieve saying, 'this demonstrates that if the cause is worthy enough, shooters will support it, and to all who attended, as well as the volunteers and referees, I say a big thank you from Sharon and myself and all at Park Lodge'. For the record, the layout was over 15 stands, including the famous high tower, and a varied and testing course was put together by Park Lodge ground staff, making full use of the features of the ground. Some 90 shooters contested the event, from as far away as Oxfordshire and Scotland, with a large contingent of local 'top shots' also making an appearance to try for the prize pot of almost £1000. Lancashire's Michael Pennington - also an early starter - took 2nd place with 105 ex120, and Steve Cox - visiting friends in the area from his native Banbury - took 3rd with 103 ex120. Nottinghamshire 'ace' Martin Doughty and England cap Andy Beal - possibly taking advantage of 'local knowledge' - both finished on 101 having waited out the worst of the weather until the very end. Full results will be available on the Park Lodge website www.parklodgeshootingschool.co.uk in due course. Finally, this report would not be complete without mention of the now-completed Park Lodge clubhouse; a truly awesome building - the term 'clubhouse' does not do it justice, but don't take my word for it, call in and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed!"
