NORTH REGION TEAM Sporting Selection Shoot, Park Lodge SS 7^th August 2016

 

The fifth and final Sporting Team selection shoot was held at Park Lodge Shooting School, West Cowick, Snaith on Sunday 7^th August. Competition for the Regional Team has intensified recently, and this was reflected in the 150+ entries, with a number of our ‘top shots’ hoping to secure a place to represent the Region at the British Open Sporting at High Lodge next month.

 

All were met with an excellent shoot in beautiful surroundings, with benign warm weather - in the morning at least.Towards lunchtime, the wind speed picked up considerably making one or two of the targets a touch more challenging!

 

The course was devised by David Long, and put into place by the Park Lodge Team - who finalised the course without Dave as he had a prior commitment in Rio assisting his wife at the Olympic Games. Wayne, John and the rest of the staff ensured that everything went smoothly with a wide selection of targets, including battues (looping and driven), rabbits (crossing and incoming) and coloured & standard clays. Dave had said that he expected the shoot to produce an eventual winning score of 95 - he wasn’t far off the mark, as Brett Winstanley cruised to victory with 94, a couple of targets ahead of Kevin Jobling, who was an early riser and posted his 92 in the first hour. Adey Coates completed the 3^rd AA trio with 90.

 

Brett certainly had cause to rue the wind on Stand 11, a left to right rabbit clay thrown as a crosser which kept getting pushed further and further out as the day went on, but he nailed his final pair to come off with a respectable 5 ex 8.

 

Bret’s score is the one that will used for the final standings in the Regional Team selection process. These will be published in the next few days.

 

Other winning scores were Gugsy Ahmed (A Class) with 89, Shaun Gorry (B Class) on 84 and a very respectable 77 for N. Hankinson in C Class.
