North of England ABT championship 2018
The North of England ABT championship held at Bywell shooting ground on the 6th of May saw forty seven competitors take part from all over the region.
The targets as always at this premier plus ground were set to the required standards and the weather was exceptional with bright sunshine and a little breeze making the targets clearly visible to all shooters taking part.
There were eleven 25 straights recorded throughout the event from all classes of shooters and numerous 24’s showing clearly that only those with the highest resolve would be successful at the culmination of the day indeed at the half way stage there were four shooters with scores of 48x50 and many other shooters with 46x50 so any errors in judgement by these competitors would be costly to say the least.
The event also encompassed the Northumberland championship with over a third of entrants coming from that county with Mr E Cutter and Mr D Wooley maintaining their lead thought-out the event resulting on both shooters being tied at the end of the day on excellent scores of 94.
Three other shooters Mr P Killingley Mr J Thompson and Mr I Ainsley at the events end also posted scores of 94 which resulted in a very tense five way shoot off the result of which saw Mr Ainsley take the North of England High Gun and Mr Cutter take the Northumberland championship.
Special mention must also go to Cory Doble form Durham the only junior attending the event as despite having a bad first round clearly dug deep shooting the next seventy five targets dropping only four birds resulting in a very respectable score of 90 a truly remarkable achievement considering his young age of only fourteen and he was justly rewarded by receiving his class badge from Mr Richard Henry. I have no doubt that Master Doble will achieve much success in the future if he continues his shooting career in this way and will most certainly be one to watch in coming events.
