DTL report from 2018 AGM

AGM DTL 2018

I would like to start off with congratulating the North region on how well you have shot over 2018.

The first major DTL event of the year was the World Championships which took place in Wagga Wagga in Australia. We had 11 shooters out of the 17 shoots who came from the North region which represented England. That must tell you the North region has some top shots about. Even though none of them placed individually a few managed to get into the top 10% cut. The super veteran’s team got a well-deserved silver medal which John Adams from Yorkshire.

The North region selection shoots had a good turnout. Which was well supported and strongly contested giving the North some very strong teams.

On 16th June the Doughall Memorial took places at Bywell. We had lots of North region shooters winning classes and categories. Peter Johnson won B Class and Roger Wright won C class. We only had one winner of the categories in Doughall Memorial which was Emma Holden winning the ladies category. Mark Delf won disabled standing on both Doughall Memorial and English Open. In the English Open Richard Tinson shot 295 and after a shoot off he came out victorious to gain him the title of Junior English Open.

In the Inter region competition held during English Open all the teams shot marvellously. The winning teams were the Ladies and Veterans.

On 19th July a jam-packed few days of DTL started at Mid Wales Shooting ground. There were 13 Northern Shooters representing England at the Home International. The following shooters which represented England were:- Senior Team Paul Chaplow (Captain of the Senior Team), Nigel Chapman, Ian Mullarkey, Tom Robinson, Paul Turner and Martin Jeminson. Super Veteran Team John Adams. Veteran Team Ted Philipson and Eric Atkinson (Captain of the Veteran team). In the Juniors Team Own Vining (Captain of the Junior Team) and Ladies Team Emma Holden, Leanne Powell (Captain of Ladies Team) and Charlotte Kitchen. Congratulation to all these shooters who gained a place to represent their country.

Home International

So let’s get down to how they performed. All the Northern senior shooters shot 294 and above which along with the rest of the England Senior Team gained them in winning the Home International Senior Team event. Well done boys. Also the Super Veteran Team won their team event. Emma Holden shot 296 and won the overall Ladies High Gun. Overall the Home International was very successful.

British Open

The British Open held on 20th July saw non England shooters come into their own. Michael Turner who previously won the British Open twice wanted to make it a hat-trick he shot 100/300 and which put him in the shoot off. However it wasn’t meant to be, he lost to Dan Price. There’s always next year Michael. Austin Coxhead wasn’t far off he shot a 100/299. Emma Holden shot 100/298 to go in the shoot off with Bernadette Quinn who after shooting 58 targets straight lost. However Emma did win the overall ladies high gun of two days. A massive congratulation to Graham Taylor who became The Super Veteran high gun shooting 100/298.

European Open

You would think that after two full days of intense shooting was enough for the DTL scene however there was another two days to go with the European Open being held 21-22nd July. All the England Team placed in the team event with some outstanding results for individual shooters. Mainly Leanne Powell shot an amazing 590 which gained her a Silver medal in the Ladies Individuals event. Graham Taylor gained a bronze medal in the super veteran category. Well done to you all.

After a massive four days of shooting, there has been some amazing results for the Northern Shooters. I would just like to say well done to all who competed and won titles, medals and Trophy’s.

On 13th /14th October the National Inter Counties competition was held at Nottingham. The northern counties won the ladies and veteran team events and in the individual events. Leanne Powell won Ladies High Gun with a score of 290 and Graeme Taylor won veterans with a score of 293. Well done to the teams and categories winners.

Finally the North had their own inter region county championship which was held at Spennymoor on Sunday 28th October there was a good turnout of 50 shooters. The winner this year is Emma Holden who shot a score of 100/299. She also won the Ladies title too. The Veteran winner was George Turnes with a score of 98/290. James Tate took the Junior title with a score of 98/290 and the Colts title went to Cory Doble with a score of 97/285. Well done to all the winners they are well deserved.
