Chairman's Report 2022

Summary of Chairman's Report at 2022 Regional Annual General Meeting

There have been regional championships held in all the usual disciplines but total entry numbers were 'down' – especially in 'trap' events - compared to 2021. English Sporting, ABT and FITASC sporting were well supported, but again overall numbers were lower than last year. That said, the regional All-Round championship is still be held - at EYCSG on 30th December.

The reasons behind the disappointing fall in numbers will be looked at by the committee in the coming months, and although the underlying financial climate is one factor, there are likely to be others in play. In particular, county and regional English skeet championships continue to be poorly attended, and the region was unable to field a team at the British Open skeet championships at Eriswell Lodge. Two skeet reps have since been appointed to try and increase better support for the discipline.

Two new championship trophies have been purchased; the 'W.A. Heeks Memorial Trophy' for English Sporting, in memory of the late Tony Heeks who served as the north region board member of the CPSA for almost 26 years, and a new trophy in the form of a cup awarded to the regional FITASC champion.

Major championships in DTL, ABT and Double Rise were held this year at Bywell, with north region shooters giving a very good account of themselves, winning individual and team trophies at all.

East Yorkshire CSG (Beverley) was chosen as 'Ground of the Year' at the CPSA National Awards night in March, and Lucy Hall from the ground achieved spectacular success at the English Open Olympic Trap, as well as a silver medal at European Olympic Trap in Cyprus. Lucy has also won a quota place to represent GB in the 2024 Olympic Games in France.

The £2 levy on all championship and selection shoots will continue, with the money being used for the betterment of shooting in the region – including the purchase of badges, trophies, and the like as well as providing financial support to regional team members at major championships – this being the only region to do so.

Finally, the 2022 Chairmans Award was presented to David Dale who, as a popular referee at many northern shoots, did so with fairness and good humor but he has now decided to put his pen and clipboard away for good. Besides his referee duties regionally, nationally, and internationally David has represented his country at DTL and skeet a number of times in years gone by. A very worthy recipient.
