2011 D.T.L. NATIONAL INTERCOUNTIES

2011 NATIONAL INTER-COUNTIES

After a week of beautiful weather! Counties teams from all over England arrived at Bywell shooting ground eager to shoot the National Inter-Counties Team Championships only to find a dull overcast wet day, but it didn’t stop some very good scores from being posted.

Nottinghamshire entered two County Teams in the Championship, One team consisting of six seniors, and one team consisting of three Juniors.

Team Nottinghamshire won this Championship in 2009, with Yorkshire the Runner up team, In 2010 Yorkshire won the title with Nottinghamshire in the runner up position, but even with 4 shooters from the 2009 winning squad still in the 2011 team it was the same outcome with Yorkshire first past the post and Nottinghamshire again the runner up,

But all the team shot very well, Jody Clarke misread the first target out and to our surprise shot over the top with both barrels, but Jody certainly didn’t misread the next 99 targets! All were blown to dust with the first barrel only 3 yards out of the trap! For a score of 297 and the Nott’s high gun,  the rest of the team all shot well with four scores in the 290s to finish with a total score of 1459 from the top 5 shooters in the team, but unfortunately it was not good enough to beat a very strong Yorkshire team on a winning total of 1473.

The Junior team shot well to win the junior championship, with 15 year old Joe Booth leading the pack and adding to his massive total of Championship wins this year by winning the Colt High gun on a score of 100/ 295, This is Joes very first 100 but I don’t think it will be his last, Joe was ably assisted by team mates 11 year old Freddy Brown and new team member 17 year old Conor Bean in only his first competitive year (Congratulations and well done Joe, Freddy & Conner)

Curtis Woolley 18 who this year was shooting in the Nott’s senior’s team won the Junior High gun on 98/291 in doing so Curtis beat his friend and rival England Junior Team mate Jack Wilkinson from Linc’s by three points.     (Congratulations Curtis very well done)
