Shropshire CPSA Newsletter - December 2020
Annual General Meeting (AGM), Committee, and Team Managers! Please contact the Shropshire Chairman, Trevor Lewis, if you wish to put yourself forward for the Shropshire CPSA Committee for 2021; participate in the AGM (details will be provided nearer the time); or provide much needed help as a Team Manager of your discipline!
4 October: Orston, English Sporting Nick Williamson was 9th overall, 3rd in Veterans, and joint 5th in AAA Class with a very solid 88 ex100. He and other sporting shots, like John Stokes, Mike Cashmore, Fred Wilson, Dan Whittall, Paul Stokes, Matt Bower and Robert Bower, have been going to various venues recently, good to see! Enjoy your sport and keep safe!
4 October: West Midlands & Shropshire Universal Trap (UTR) Championships, Rugby Graham Evans was the star of the show winning both the West Midlands and Shropshire Championship with a very impressive 97, including 74 on the first three rounds. Trevor Lewis was Shropshire’s runner-up, scoring a respectable 87, and his first UTR 25 straight in the first round. This clashed with a BICTSF UTR GB selection shoot; it is noted the high gun at that shoot did average 97% and around 88% was mid-field.
11 October: Shatterford This is a new sporting ground with targets set by Steve Lovett. At the first non-registered shoot there were some great scores from several Shropshire guns, including three with 90+ ex100! Leading the way was Stewart Owen with an excellent 92 (the top scores by AAs were 99 & 94). It was good enough to give Stewart joint 6th overall; joint 4th in Seniors; and 2nd in B Class. Well done Stewart!
17 & 18 October: British Shooting Talent Pathway, Olympic Trap Championships, Nuthampstead It is good to see 5 Service Cadets amongst the 34 at the Championships. The Service Cadet and Young Members Initiative was started during June 2018, and there has been an increase in Junior shooting in Shropshire; and Hereford & Worcester since then. Covid has restricted the amount of shooting we have all been able to do. The Cadets are encouraged to keep working at their shooting to make sure they can take full advantage of what 2021 will offer. Well done to Jack Shipton, Zak Mansell, Joel Kelly, Nathan Rouse and Charlie Morris, their families, and all those who have supported them.
17 & 18 October: National Inter-Counties Skeet Championship, Northampton Trevor Lewis was the only Shropshire entrant scoring 95 that resulted in joint 4th in B Class, and joint 10th in Veterans.
18 October: West Midlands & Shropshire Automatic Ball Trap (ABT) Championships, Rugby Graham Evans was not at his best but still managed to beat Trevor Lewis by just one clay (86 to 85)! Graham wins yet another County Champion Badge.
18 October: Double Rise, The Priory This was Norfolk’s and Cambridgeshire’s County Championships. Good to note that our former Chairman, John Stokes, had a go! He was only five off the High Gun, and one ahead of Aaron Heading - not every day a Shropshire gun can claim that! John on the same day also shot FITASC Sporting at Mount Farm, scoring a respectable 72 ex100. Well done John!
25 October: English Open Helice, Rugby Alan Rowley won Bronze in Mens; and Trevor Lewis a Bronze in Veterans. Joel Kelly, in his first ever Helice shoot, was 1st in Colts winning a Gold Award, with a score matching some very experienced shots, irrespective of category. Well done Joel, excellent shooting!
