Cheshire ESP Selection #5, Mickley Hall S.S. - 8th July 2017

Cheshire ESP Selection #5, Mickley Hall S.S. - 8th July 2017

The fifth ESP selection shoot of 2017 was hosted by Mickley Hall Shooting Ground, Cheshire and I would like to thank both John and Scott Barnett for presenting such an excellent course of targets shot over twelve stands. Thanks not only go to them but also to the referees who seldomly get the recognition they deserve and also the catering and ground staff, Mrs Barnett, who worked tirelessly throughout the day.

Some 29 Cheshire competitors attended this event, and as we are nearing the end of this years selection process, the budding team members are picking up their game with just one selection shoot to go. The weather throughout the day was near perfect with the occasional gust of wind which affected some clays particularly the 45 yard left to right battue.
On the morning squads, some excellent scores were coming in with T. Woodcock and J. Woodcock finishing on 89 and 87 respectively; P. Hindley finding form with an impressive 87 and I. Cunliffe with a very steady 86. The pace setter from the morning was Steve Randles who posted a tremendous score of 91 which, I for one, did not think it would be beaten. (How wrong was I?)
The afternoon squads went out and I had the pleasure of watching some brilliant shooting. Both Mark and Kerry Oakley were ‘on fire’ making balls of dust from the clays that were presented before them. Mark never looked like he was going to miss and when he did he knuckled down not to repeat it. In the end Mark finished on 93 which was not surpassed for the remainder of the competition.
(Mark, it was a pleasure watching you shoot.) The ever consistent Kerry Oakley put in a score of 83 which saw her with Ladies High Gun and another notable score from the afternoon squads was from Guy Robinson who put in an excellent 89 and has built up a very steady sequence of scores this year.
Once again I would like to thank each and every one of you who attended to support this event and I look forward to
the Cheshire ESP Championship on the 23rd July 2017 at Catton Hall SG where I hope to see you all again.

Continued Good Shooting.
Paul Ellis - ESP Team Manager
