CHESHIRE ESP 6TH AND FINAL SELECTION SHOOT -THE SCORES ARE IN! - Catton Hall S.G. 23rd July 2017
The sixth and final ESP selection shoot of 2017 was held at Catton Hall SG, Frodsham, Cheshire on Sunday 23rd July and the shoot ran alongside the Cheshire ESP Championship. Thanks goes to all the staff at Catton Hall SG for their professionalism and management throughout the day. Over one hundred and thirty competitors attended the venue where the weather was fair throughout. The course was of 100 targets set over fourteen stands and as usual a majority of the stands needed some thinking. Three of the stands were serious testers and if you were fortunate enough to straighten one of those three, you would have come away with a smile on your face.
There were some very good scores being put in early on in the day, with Brett Davies posting an early lead score of 89, Steve Randles posting a creditable 87 and James Woodcock and Neil Waterman on 86. Mid way through the morning revealed a continuance of good scores which included the ever consistent Miles Machin and Ian Cunliffe on 85 but these were surpassed by Eddie Wilkinson, ( I had the pleasure of accompanying on the course) and who finished with an excellent 87.
Later in the day saw the arrival of the ‘in form’ Mark and Kerry Oakley, both in good spirits and confident mood before setting off on the course. Their confidence was not misplaced as Mark was awarded the Sporting Championship trophy having scored and excellent 90 and Kerry was awarded the Ladies High Gun with a creditable 75.
This was a very good end to the selection process of this year and I am now in the process of compiling the ESP teams to represent Cheshire at the West Midlands Inter-Counties at Doveridge on the 10th September 2017 and the National Inter-Counties at Eriswell Lodge Shooting Ground, Brandon, Suffolk, IP27 9FB on the 1st October 2017.
Sincere thanks you to you all for the support you have shown and given throughout this year. I wish all those chosen to represent the County at the Inter-Counties the best and to the remainder continued best wishes and good shooting.
Paul Ellis - ESP Team Manager.
