Success for Cheshire Shooters at the English Open FITASC Compak Sporting Championships
Cheshire were well represented at the English Open Compak Sporting Championships, held at Orston on Sunday.
Dull conditions prevailed for the day, but mercifully without the biting cold temperatures of recent days. Top shooters from around the UK attended, vying for places on the GB team to compete in Cyprus in May.
After a long day, and with the light fading, category places and High Gun were still to be decided with five shooters all on 99 ex 100, including Tony Dean. After a 25 bird shoot-off Tony narrowly missed out on the High Gun place with 23 ex 25. He also topped the Seniors class, receiving the gold medal. Ben Husthwaite eventually took the title shooting just one more target and Tony was third overall.
Andy Jones also put in a sterling performance with a score of 94, sealing his silver medal position in Veterans after a shoot off.
It was a well run shoot with a good variety of targets, and ground staff and referees all did a good job. Thanks to Orston Shooting Ground for hosting the event. The next round of the selections goes to Barbury at the end of the month, so watch this space......
