Winning Ways continue at Compak UK Championships, Barbury - 25th March 2018

Barbury Shooting Ground in Wiltshire hosted the Compak UK Championships on Sunday 25th March, the third and final stage of the selections for a place on the GB Compak team travelling to Cyprus in May.  A number of Cheshire shooters headed south, including Tony Dean and Andy Jones, who were in the running for team places.

Four testing technical layouts with combinations of fast battues, midi, mini and rabbit clays ensured high scores would be hard earned and the final count ended with Duane Morley, David Kempley and Tony Dean all tied on 95.  David had left early so missed out on the 25 bird shoot off on simultaneous pairs.  Tony held his focus and came out on top with a superb score of 24 to Duane’s 22.  This result not only took the High Gun prize and the Compak UK Sporting Championship title, but also confirmed his top place in the GB team with a perfect 300 out of 300 points, achieved by winning the seniors category at all 3 qualifiers and having the highest overall score of 290 ex 300 from the 3 selection shoots.

Andy Jones also had a successful day with a score of 83 and 3rd place in veterans.  This, together with his results from the previous 2 selections (88 at Doveridge and 94 at Orston), secured his place in the veterans team so Andy and Tony will both have the honour of representing GB and Cheshire in Cyprus in May.
