Cheshire ESP Championships and Final Team Selection Shoot - Catton Hall SG - 22nd July 2018

Catton Hall Shooting Ground, Frodsham, Cheshire were the hosts of the sixth and final selection shoot of 2018 and this was run in conjunction with the Cheshire Championships held on Sunday 22nd July 2018. There were forty four Cheshire competitors paying their levies this day and their scores were put forwards to the selection process.

The day remained dry albeit a little overcast and the 100 targets over 14 stands were of a varied variety incorporating three towers alongside a mixed bag of standard, midi and battue clays. The right to left tower target, positioned in front of the club house, caused a few problems for some and the cherry picker high driven target caused its usual loss of targets to a majority of the days competitors. It was extremely satisfying to see over two hundred entries this day, not only for the ground but also for Cheshire CPSA.

The scores dripped in from the early starters with Rob Rolfe and Neil Waterman setting the pace with scores of 81 only to be surpassed by our own GB Super vet, Andy Jones with an 83.  It was mid way through the day that this score was beaten and it was the ever consistent Mark Oakley posting a very good 86 with his wife, Kerry, on 79. In the Vets, Colin Foden shot an impressive 85 which took the Vet’s High Gun on the day pipping Nigel Lane by one clay.

It hotted up late on in the day with some impressive scores being posted, non more so than our Junior, Tom Woodcock on 90,  (very well done Tom, the student taking over from the master?) Carl Vickers on an 88 but then Steve Randles came in with 93 which didn’t appear that it was going to be beaten, that was until Scott Barnett and Tony Dean set off on the course. All eyes were on the scoreboard and the remaining three noticeable scores were in. Graham Lowe with his new weapon of choice, (It appears to work) on 89, Tony Dean on 91 and Scott Barnett with an outstanding 95.

The scores are in…….

Individual High Gun…………Scott Barnett - 95

Ladies High Gun……………….Kerry Oakley - 79

Vets High Gun…………………..Colin Foden - 85.

Overall a fantastic day with an excellent turnout and a massive thank you to one and all for your attendance.
