Success for Cheshire Shooters at the FITASC World Championship Compak Sporting - Rio Salso - 23rd August 2018

Both Andy Jones and Tony Dean represented Great Britain (and extreme South East Cheshire) at the 15th FITASC World Championship Compak Sporting, held from 23rd to 26th August at Rio Salso, Tavullia, Italy.  The San Martino shooting ground is a superb venue, and it was immaculately presented for the event with paved walkways, cafes and trade stands, and a restaurant marquee catering for shooters and supporters.
The testing and varied targets were classic Compak style on 8 purpose built layouts.  Soaring temperatures saw the ice-cream sales rocket.  Fierce competition from the participating nations with 600+ shooters over the 4 days ended with a shoot off for places in a rain storm.  When the dust (or rain) settled, the teams gathered on the floodlit grounds' closing ceremony.  Great Britain were well represented on the podium with Andy Jones and his team of veterans picking up the silver medal.  Ladies also took the silver and the men's team narrowly missed out on a podium place ending up fourth by only one target.  The seniors team of Tony Dean, David Kempley and Stuart Clarke took centre stage as the only Great Britain team to win the gold medal, beating the Italian team by just 3 targets out of 600 (570 to 567).  Tony has had an incredible year and is the only Great Britain team member to achieve a double gold: also winning the European Compak seniors team gold and individual silver back in May in Larnaka, Cyprus.  "Phew, what a year".
