National Inter Counties ESP - Orston SG - 7th October 2018

The English Sporting National Inter Counties Event was hosted by Orston SG, Nottingham on the weekend of the 6th & 7th October 2018 and a pleasant day greeted the twenty two Counties competing this event.

The fourteen stands on show provided some tests of ability for all the competitors with a widespread variety of types and different coloured clays. It was an extremely well presented course which ran smoothly throughout the day. Over thirty Cheshire competitors took to the field, Ladies, Juniors, Colts and Seniors and it is fair to say that most found it difficult with only one score from Cheshire in the nineties and that being from Tony Dean, who hit a great score of 90. Mike Holland, Steve Randles, Scott Barnett, James Woodcock, Guy Robinson and Mike Sargeson all were in the eighties but on this day the scores were not good enough to resemble the medal haul that we had at the West Midlands Inter Counties. It was late in the day when most of the competitors had left to make their way home that the final results were in and in some categories, it was very close.

Norfolk won the Senior Team category with a score of 463 (Cheshire - 433).

Buckinghamshire won the Ladies Team category with a score of 168 (Cheshire - 129).

Lincolnshire won the Juniors category with a score of 157 (Cheshire Gold - 136 & Cheshire Red - 100).

Now, just as you may be feeling miserable came the Vets award and Yes, we were awarded the GOLD medals.

CHESHIRE Vets Gold Team on a score of 167 - Mike Holland (88) and John Shreeve (79).

Nottinghamshire on a score of 166.

Cambridgeshire on a score of 162.

At the end of the day we didn’t come away empty handed as I had the pleasure of collecting the cup and medals on behalf of both Mike and John, very well done to you both.

On a final note I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the staff at Orston SG for presenting an excellent course and providing excellent facilities but also to ALL you,  the Cheshire shooters, who have given their time, effort and money in supporting this great sport and this great County of Cheshire. Thank you.
