Cheshire Ladies Clay Shooting League wins Development Initiative of the Year
CPSA Press Release - The Ladies Clay Shooting League named Development Initiative of the Year
The Ladies Clay Shooting League, of Cheshire, was named the Development Initiative of the Year by the National Governing Body for clay-target shooting in England, the CPSA, at the 2019 CPSA Annual Awards at the Belfry Hotel in Sutton Coldfield on 2 February.
The Development Initiative of the Year Award recognises any project or initiative that has achieved success in developing the sport through attracting more shooters and encouraging new participants. Jane Dronsfield of award sponsor Romero Sports and Leisure presented the award, which Mandy Berisford and Miles Machin accepted.
The Ladies Clay Shooting League is an initiative of the Cheshire CPSA, which also won the CPSA County Committee of the Year Award on the night. The initiative seeks to improve ladies shooting and introduce ladies to the etiquette and rules of CPSA competitions. Ladies in the league shoot in teams associated with their chosen grounds, adding a team competition element to events. This past season saw the league grow from 18 to 130 lady shooters.
Miles Machin, Chairman of the Cheshire CPSA, stated that ‘Winning the Development Initiative of the Year award with the Ladies Clay Shooting League was the icing on the cake after such a fabulous year. We would also like to thank Duncan Richardson from Shraley Brook Media for all his help with our website and Guy Robinson from Pro Glass 4 for his sponsorship in 2018.’
Machin noted that the grounds that support the league are instrumental to its success. These are Catton Hall Shooting Ground, Holmes Chapel Shooting Ground, Cloudside Shooting Ground, North Wales Shooting School, Fauxdegla Shooting Ground, and Mickley Hall Shooting School.
The CPSA Annual Awards night is a cornerstone event in the clay shooting calendar. Former EastEnders and Extras actor Shaun Williamson hosted the evening and helped to present awards that recognised up-and-coming young shots, coaches, shooting grounds, and grassroots organisations that promote the sport.
The CPSA is the National Governing Body for Clay Target Shooting in England, supporting clay target shooting enthusiasts across the UK and promoting the highest standards of excellence. The CPSA regulates the standards of safety and competition at over 300 affiliated and registered grounds around the country, promoting and organising national championships in sixteen different clay-shooting disciplines.
