Cheshire CPSA ESP Selection Shoot - Doveridge SG - 31st March 2019
The first Cheshire Selection shoot of 2019 was held at Doveridge SG Derbyshire on Sunday 31st March 2019. There were 195 entries to this Event from Shropshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Northampton and Wales and forty six of these were from Cheshire. This was truly an excellent turnout from Cheshire CPSA members with Seniors, Vets, Ladies and Juniors taking part. The weather was clear and no bright sunshine to affect visibility of targets and therefore reduced the
reason(s) for missing. There was a little breeze which carried a little chill factor but overall a very good day.
The course was over twelve stands and incorporated a variety of targets with battues, 70mm crossers, rapid distant Teal and conceivably an overhead which disappeared , if you let it go, against the foliage. Some of the competitor's appeared to have struggled on Stand 9 which saw a fast away Teal followed on report by a fast dropping overhead Midi clay. The scores on this stand showed a majority hitting 50% or even less.
It would be fair to say that some competitors struggled throughout the day, unable to straighten stands but achieving a good percentage throughout which from an onlooker would say, ‘An exercise in concentration’ was required particularly on the two stands throwing five pairs high into the sky. There were only seven competitors that straightened these stands. (Well done John Shreeve as you were the only one from Cheshire to do so.)
As the scores came in, it appeared that B. Woollard from Warwickshire would take the High Gun prize on a great 94 but not to be as Rob Claybrook from Wales shot an amazing and incredible 98. Well done Rob, that STR practice at NWSS, Sealand obviously helped.
Cheshire High Gun on the day was Carl Vickers, 90 followed by Miles Machin, 87 and James Savage 87. In the Ladies category, Kerry Oakley produced a score of 82 and in the Juniors E. Morris put in a great score of 84. Well done to all.
I would like to thank all the staff at Doveridge for their tireless efforts throughout the day including the catering staff but also to you, the competitors, who without we would not have achieved a great day and we look forwards to our next Selection shoot at Kingsley Moor SG on the 28th April 2019.
Regards,
Paul Ellis - Cheshire ESP Manager.
