School challenges and competitions
For those who are parents of teenagers, you may not be aware that there are schools challenges and competitions for clay shooting. Usually it is mostly public school teams that take part but any school can put forward a team.
I mention this because it is a great pleasure to congratulate Milton Abbey Pupils on recently winning (late 2016) a national competition held at Millfield School. They came first, beating 26 other schools. Not can their success be attributed to their superb individual efforts, but also to Graham Brown, Purbeck SS, who trained, supported and mentored the Milton Abbey Team. Well done to the team and to Graham.
I know of three other Dorset school teams who regularly have Clay Shooting as en extra-curricular activity; alas, they do not enter any formal competitions. If a young person wants to start shooting, they can visit a CPSA-registered ground or one of the several non-CPSA-registered grounds in the County. However, please ensure that the Ground uses trained instructors/coaches and have safety for all users as their top priority. There are obvious costs but we need to encourage more youngsters into the sport.
