East Midlands FITASC March 29th 2009

BARRY CLAIMS A DOUBLE GOLD

A bright sunny day welcomed shooters to Lakenheath CTC who hosted the East Midlands FITASC Championships. A healthy entry of 65 shooters meant for keen competition in all classes and it was Camb’s Vet Barry Simpson who rose to the top of the pile by claiming the Senior and Vet’s title with a superb score of 91. Barry’s nearest rival in the senior class was Bedfordshire’s very own Andrew Clifton from Sporting Targets who finished the day two clays behind to claim the runners up spot and the Silver medal, in the bronze medal position was Notts shooter S. Davis on 86. With Barry taking the Vet’s title it was left to Andy Harvison from Leicestershire and Eric Chapman from Suffolk to take the minor honours picking up the silver and bronze medals respectively. The Ladies class with only two East Midland’s entries was keenly contested between Norfolk’s Susan Hallwood and Pauline Chapman from Suffolk with Pauline coming out the victor by a solitary clay.

The junior title was a very close affair with Phil Gray from Camb’s and Sam Green from Norfolk finishing all square on an impressive score of 83 and it was left to a shoot off to resolve the tie where Phil emerged victorious, third place honours went to Tristram Allen from Leicestershire.

Thank you to Pete Usher and his team at Lakenheath for hosting the event and thanks also to Pietro Maestroeni for awarding the trophies on the day.
