East Midlands Single Barrel May 3rd 2009

LINCS SHOOTERS DOMINATE, BUT ITS PERCY’S DAY.

The East Midlands bandwagon pulled into High Tower Gun Club for its first visit of the Championship season with Single Barrel as the dish of the day. Already this year Lincolnshire shooters have dominated the trap events and today was no exception with over half the medals heading back to Lincs turf. It was a bright sunny day for the 35 regional shooters with chasing clouds causing ever changing light conditions and a stiff breeze to keep competitors on their toes.  Cambridgeshire’s Percy Rollings made it another great day for regional vets by taking the senior and vets title with a score of 97 to match John Winn’s victories in the ABT and Barry Simpson’s in the FITASC.

Lincs shooters Will Caton and Cliff Elsam had a battle royal to decide the silver and bronze having to go to a second round in the shoot off after the pair were all square on 96 after the main competition, then it was a pair of 23’s for the Lincs boys until Will’s score of 23 in the next round, was one target ahead of Cliff to give him the silver medal.

With the gold in vets already heading back to Cambridgeshire it was left to Lincs shooters Barry Dumore and our Lady Chair Janet Stennett to pick up the silver and bronze with scores of 93 and 92 respectively. It was a good day for Janet as she also took the Ladies title with Hazel Whiten from Cambridgeshire in the silver medal position.

Jack Wilkinson from Lincs and Curtis Wooley from Nott’s locked horns again in the junior title race with this week Jack taking the major honours and Curtis having to console himself with the silver medal, Billy Caton rounded off a superb day for guess who, yes Lincolnshire, by winning the Bronze medal.

Many thanks to Mike Williams and his team at High Tower GC for a well run event.
