East Midlands Skeet Doubles - Sunday 21st June
IT'S STEVE SMITH AT THE DOUBLE.
Pictured Joe Booth ( Nottinghamshire)
Nottingham and District Gun Club hosted the East Midlands Skeet Doubles on Sunday (21st) and a bright and breezy but still warm day greeted the early starters. I had the privilege of firing the first shots of the day at some great targets and of course set a very low bench mark for others to follow; sadly my score of 92 was soon overhauled by the majority of the 23 entries.
Steve Smith from Norfolk proved that you don’t need a huge entry to get top scores by recording a faultless display of doubles shooting and winning the overall title with the perfect ton. P Cook from Camb’s took second spot with a more than credible 97 and John Miller from Nott’s and a Mr J Hall finished joint third for the bronze medal. A shoot off was required to separate the pair and it took 50 targets to separate them with John Miller just running out the victor.
Michelle Conway from Camb’s picked up another Ladies title with a score of 92 just overcoming Lincolnshire’s Tracey Bridge by just one clay, in third spot and the bronze medal position was Rebecca Lee from Northants at her first attempt at Skeet doubles scoring 82.
John Miller’s bronze in the senior title was joined by gold in the Vets title as his score of 96 proved too much for the other competitors, joint second was left to B Dunmore and B Thorpe both from Lincs, both were called for the shoot off but only Mr Thorpe was still at the ground so he won the silver medal by default.
The lone competitor in juniors was Nott’s shooter Joe Booth but his score of 83 was more than credible for a winning total, well done to Joe for his first East Midlands success and I’m sure we will be reading more about his achievements in the years and month’s to come.
Finally a very big thank you to Carl and his team at Nottingham & DGC for hosting the event.
