FANTASTIC “LEA” WELL SHOT

Northampton Shooting Ground hosted the East Midlands Olympic Skeet Championships this weekend (12th July). The shoot normally held at Tythe Farm this year made its way down to Northants HQ and sadly was not that well attended. Entries over the years have been hard to come by and this year was no exception with only 15 faithfuls supporting this very difficult and testing discipline.

Andy Austin last year’s winner was not available to defend his title so a new name was going to adorn the trophy and it was home talent Andrew Lea who stepped up to the plate and claimed the honours recording a score of 88 which was a very good effort considering the stiff breeze that plagued shooters efforts. A gaggle of Nottinghamshire shooters made the trip down the M1 and most returned home with a medal of some colour, Roger Ford claimed second place overall with a score of 81 and Dave Sayer took third place and the bronze medal just five targets back.

Rogers efforts were also rewarded in Vets as he took the title, with fellow county shooters Dave Sayer and Nott’s County Chairman Paul Brown in second and third respectively.

Norfolk’s Kyle Woodhall-Cross made the long journey to Northampton but sadly had no competition as he was the lone junior competitor but his efforts should be applauded as he has been an ever present in East Midlands Championships over the last two or three years, well done Kyle your continued support is much appreciated.

To wrap things up no East Midlands ladies contested this event, Northampton Shooting Ground now looks forward to hosting the next East Midlands Championships the hotly contested All Round next week (19th July).
