We all know that the team at Nottingham & District Gun Club excel at what they do but to organise the weather as well was above and beyond.  The intercounties DTL is a very keenly contested event by the counties of the region and the teams enjoyed a lovely, mainly sunny, September day with just enough of a breeze to make things interesting.  Team Lincolnshire were out early and as their scores went up on the board they sat back to enjoy the bacon butties not convinced that victory was by any means in the bag.  The Leicestershire team soon leapt into the lead in the ladies category with very fine performances from Julie Smith (294), Joy Hirons (282) and Leanne Palmer (281), relegating the Lincs Ladies to 2nd place by 11 points but it took the rest of the day to find the winners of the other categories.  In the senior category there was a very strong challenge from the Suffolk and Norfolk teams and initially it looked very much as though Norfolk was going to spoil Lincolnshire’s day as John Reynolds recorded the only 100/300 of the day closely followed by R Houghton on 299 and B Castlo-Hall on 296 but the overall team score of 1741 gave the Lincs seniors, Marvin Houghton, Nick Rose, Jan Powell, Cliff Elsam, Alison Dupree, Dave Toombs, Mike Burton and Eric Cundall victory by just 2 points.  More nail biting in the veterans category as John Stevenson’s 295 made Cambridgeshire possible winners but their overall team score of 578 left the Lincs vets, Ray Curry, Brian Drewery, Trevor Back and Paul Stennett the winners by just 4 points.  In the junior category Notts junior Curtis Woolley posted a very fine 293 early in the day.  This was well good enough to give him the junior high gun trophy but the Notts team finished just 5 points behind the Lincs juniors of Jack Wilkinson, Billy Caton and Will Whittaker.  Well done to all, the friendly rivalry and fierce competition between the counties are what clay shooting is all about and make these intercounties shoots events not to be missed.  The full list of scores can be found under team results on the website.
