THORROLD BASKS IN THE SPRING SUNSHINE

With the rigours of the winter weather hopefully long behind us it was a pleasure for the 58 strong field of shooters not to be weighted down with the winter warmers that have become almost compulsory wear for far too long as the winter season reluctantly left us.

 Spring sunshine welcomed the hopefuls to Lakenheath to take part in the Regional FITASC Championships with a £100 High Gun and a £50 Vets High Gun also up for grabs.

Former Champion Barry Simpson from Cambridgeshire was in attendance hoping to regain his crown but it was Suffolk man Phillip Thorrold who just spoilt Barry’s day by a single clay to take the title and the High Gun money on a highly impressive 93 leaving Barry having to settle for the silver medal and another Camb’s man Glen Spalding a further clay back in the bronze medal position although Glen did get some further cheer by sharing the B class money along with joint first place Brett Hand.

Becky Bream made the long trek from Nottingham worthwhile by winning the Ladies gold medal on a great score of 83, last year’s winner Pauline Chapman from Suffolk having to settle for second place and the silver medal.

Barry’s disappointment in the Senior category was short lived as he retained the Veterans title for another year by beating runner up John Bidwell from Suffolk by two clays, Eric Chapman also from Suffolk winning bronze with a score of 87.

In Juniors Phil Gray from Camb’s retained the title for another year recording a score of 88 which was well clear of his County team mate Harry Seal back on 76.

Finally a big thank you to Pete Usher and his team at Lakenheath for such a well run shoot and for putting up a High Gun prize in seniors and vets on top of the £348 prize pot.

And a final thank you to Cambridgeshire reps Hazel & Chris for presenting the trophies, taking photos and collating the scores and detail of the day – Great Job!
