SOLOMONS TAKES THE SPORTRAP
The weather just about stayed fine for Kegworth’s first hosting of a Regional shoot, the day before had been real T shirt weather but it was a complete change round on the day with shooters digging out the winter coats to fend off the icy chill.
A healthy turnout of nearly fifty shooters took part, a vast percentage of which were Leicestershire shooters also bidding to become their own County Champion and it was that lovable character Ed Solomons that came out on top although fellow county shooters Toby Reed and Steve Brightwell came very close. Just a single target split the three Leics lads with Ed’s score of 89 taking the High Gun prize plus the Regional and his own County title. Toby just one clay back was rewarded with the overall Runners’ up medal plus the junior title and Steve completed the 1-2-3 by taking the bronze a further single clay behind.
Rebecca Bream of Nott’s completed a good day’s work with the Ladies title already in her pocket at the British Open All round held twenty minutes up the road at Nottingham & District GC and she narrowly beat Lincs junior Lady Rosie Brumby by two clays to make it two titles in a day. Rosie also had to settle for the bronze medal in juniors behind another Lincs team mate Ross Ingamells who said goodbye to his junior status in style by taking the English Open All Round junior title on the Saturday and the British version the following day, not a bad way to sign out on your last attempt.
Arnie Heister from Leicestershire narrowly beat Northants Vet Bob Franks to take the vets title by a single clay, Arnie’s score of 75 being just enough for him to win him his first Regional title, another Leics shooter completed the days placings as Pip Jones took the bronze medal.
Finally a big thank you to John Wroughton and his team at Kegworth, things conspired against us that meant John was left on his own to host his first fixture for the region but by all reports he did a great job.
