Regional Skeet Championships Result
MORRIS DANCES TO VICTORY
A below average 47 shooters took part in the East Mids Regional Skeet Championships today (Sun 16th) at Northampton Shooting Ground. The weather stayed fine all day but a stiff breeze plagued shooters all morning and into the early afternoon with the occasional target climbing or diving in a sudden gust of wind.
Those shooting later in the day certainly had the best of it and the early leader Neil Faulkner on 98 was vulnerable especially as conditions had calmed down and the afternoon shift was taking to the layouts. Chris Morris from Camb’s pushed the leading total to 99 and although a few threatened Chris was left clear of the field to take the title. Kevin Parsons from Beds and then Robbie Manning from Suffolk who was last year’s Champion also joined Neil and Trevor in a four way title for minor honours. Trevor was eliminated first in the 25 bird shoot off and with Kevin missing one to take the runners up berth it was down to Neil and Robbie both on 23 to go head to head off the centre peg in a sudden death shoot off for bronze, Neil cleared both pairs and a miss by Robbie was enough to give Neil bronze.
In the Ladies Northants swept the board filling all three places, Mo Sentance after a winter break was top of the pile with a score of 91 closely followed by Rose Palmer a couple of clays back, Bex Lee completed the 1-2-3 finishing in the bronze medal position on 86.
Norfolk Junior Kyle Woodhall Cross added to his large collection of East Midlands medals by winning the title on 95 well clear of his nearest rival Shaun King from Suffolk, local lad Loz Slater completed the placings by taking the bronze just one clay behind Shaun on 86.
In Vets Pete Bloomfield from Suffolk posted an early 96 to set the pace and was never headed although Lincs shooter Brian Dunmore was pretty close just one clay behind but it was enough to take the silver medal, a two way tie for bronze could not be resolved as both Brian Skipp and Trevor Sockett had left the ground so both will be awarded medals.
Finally a big thank-you to Martine, Pete and Roy at NSG for providing a good days shooting.
