All Round Championship Report

 LOW TURNOUT ALL ROUND

JAMES LACEY - NORTHANTS

Only 34 shooters showed up to shoot the Regional All Round Championships at Northampton today (Sunday 6th June) which is well down on previous years and continues the trend of falling attendances this season. Very few Regional shooters feel tempted enough to want to stray very far from their home county and events are being dominated by shooters living in the hosting county.

The All Round was no exception with Northants shooters claiming all bar three of the contested medals. James Lacey dominated the day fielding a superb 97 and was massive 6 clays in front of his nearest rival Steve Smith (Northants) who snatched the runners up medal from the grasp of fellow county shooter Mick Russell on the very last stand of the Sporting layout.

STEVE SMITH - NORTHANTS

Amazingly Rose Palmer another Northants shooter was the only entrant in the Ladies Class and even her arch nemesis Mo Sentance failed to show to give Rose a battle.

Mick Virgo from Norfolk was rewarded for his long journey by taking the Vets title on 84 just two clear of Tony Sockett from Leicestershire, Martin Ferris from Northants took the bronze medal a further three clays back.

Joe Booth from Nott’s led a field of three juniors until last year’s junior Champion Northants based Simon Edwards arrived at the ground. Simon cruised past Joes score in style ending the day a country mile in front with a more than respectable 89. Joe had to settle for the runners up berth and another Northants Junior Loz Slater completed the 1-2-3.

Many thanks to all at Northampton Shooting Ground for providing a great days shooting, the championships now head up the A6 to Kibworth who will be hosting the Regional Sporting Championships for the first time.
