Sporting Championship @ Kibworth
SPORTING DOUBLE FOR SOLOMONS
Lovable Leicestershire shooter Ed Solomons won the East Midlands Sporting Championships today at Kibworth completing a superb double. Ed earlier in the year had already won the East Midlands Sportrap at Kegworth and today’s victory crowns him as the undisputed Sporting Champion of the Region.
Ed’s score of 93 was three targets clear of last year’s Champion from Suffolk Paul Simpson who in turn was a single target clear of Toby Reed (Leics), Steve Leonard (Beds) and Jed Welham (Suffolk). With Toby and Jed shooting earlier in the day and not available for a shoot off Steve Leonard was presented the Bronze medal by default. Toby though was rewarded with the Junior trophy a massive eleven clays clear of his nearest rival and fellow County Shooter Alec Morgan who picked up his first regional medal who in turn was seven in front of Taylor Hedgecock from Camb’s also claiming his first Regional medal.
England International Rosie Brumby from Lincolnshire took the Ladies title with a score of 68 which was seven clays clear of another shooter claiming her first Regional medal Rachel Wilcock from Leicestershire.
Colin Saitch from Suffolk took the Vets title with a score of 83 some three clays clear of local man Arnie Heister back in the silver medal position. Peter Garrod overcame Brian Dunbavin in a shoot off to round off the day’s placings with the bronze medal.
A massive vote of thanks goes to Rose and her team at Kibworth, all week they had laboured away, painting and building fences, planting trees and mowing grass and the ground looked a picture, they were rewarded with great weather but sadly only 80 shooters turned up to what is normally the blue ribbon event of the Regional calendar. The shoot set up by Matt Richmond and Rob Arnold received nothing but praise from every shooter I spoke to its just a pity more did not come along to support the ground and the Region. The East Midlands Championships now move on to Orston on Saturday June 26th where the Double Rise Championships will take place.
