ZZ Helice
JIM IS KING OF THE ZZ
After a year off the fixtures calendar because of poor attendance it was decided after some amount of lobbying by ZZ diehards to give this most specialist and unique of disciplines another chance. With yours truly on the injured list we sent our man in the know Bob Meadows to Rugby & District Trap Club for possibly the first ever East Mids fixture held there to get us the low down on the days proceedings, and he reports;
Saturday 23rd October 2010 was forecast from the BBC Weather to be driving rain at Rugby & District Trap Club, for the East Midlands ZZ Helice Championships. As it turned out, the weather was sunny with some blustery wind. Nineteen competitors entered the competition, ably run by John Nightingale and his team of ‘runners’. The wind was not helping the high targets, as they invariably took off towards the boundary fence as fast as they could. As the competitors entered the last two targets, Jane Bell from Cambridgeshire was winning the Ladies class, in the seniors Jim Newman (Northants) was one target ahead of Tony Clayton (Northants) and the Veterans led by Eric Kendrick (Leics). Jane finished her round with a loss and a score to take the Ladies medal on 13 ex 20. Tony and Jim both scored two targets and confirmed Jim’s unassailable lead on 18 ex 20. Eric followed Jim and confirmed his own win in the Veterans with two scored targets and a final score of 17 ex 20.
Many thanks to Bob.
