Inter Counties FITASC

PERFECT END OF THE SEASON FOR SUFFOLK

TEAM SUFFOLK

Team Suffolk set off knowing that a mid table result was going to be enough to secure victory in the inaugural running of the Directors Trophy but Suffolk had other ideas and romped to victory in the FITASC event held at Lakenheath CTC over the weekend with a team score of 361 ex 400. A superb entry of 101 shooters meant a full house of shooters on Sunday creating a real buzz over the six layouts; the weather in general was sunny with just a late shower on Sunday.

Puff Baker was the main man for the smartly turned out Suffolk Team recording an impressive 94 which also saw him finish as the day’s High Gun, Eric Chapman always a good man in a crisis weighed in with a 93 and a trio of 80+ scores from Phillip Thorrold, Neil Bedingfield and F. Alexander was enough to pull out an eight clay lead over runners up Cambridgeshire who had high scoring Steve Grant as their top man.

The junior team event was a one horse race with Camb’s the only County able to field a side, but what a team it was with two of the top juniors in the country if not the world, Phil Gray rattled up a superb score of 92 to give him the Junior High Gun Trophy and Harry Seal 82 with Georgia Moule on 53 to give them an uncontested victory.

The Ladies team event was a straight fight between County rivals Suffolk and Norfolk with this time Norfolk claiming the bragging rights, Susan Hallwood 79 and Heather Pointer 70 just edging a two clay victory, Pauline Chapman76  top scoring for Suffolk Ladies.

The Vets team title was more contested with five Counties fielding teams, at the end of the day it was the Leicestershire team of Pip Jones, Andy Harvison and Steve Brightwell who completed a pretty good season by taking the title by a narrow margin of just three clays from runners up Camb’s who had Barry Simpson top scoring on 93.

Full results can be seen HERE.

So its many congratulations to Team Suffolk who have proved to be the most consistent County and run out winners of the Directors Trophy in its first year, a couple of good victory’s plus some high end finishes and they ran out healthy winners to second place Nottinghamshire, the Trophy will be presented to Suffolk Chairman Dick Hails at the East Midlands AGM in February next year.

Finally we say thanks to Peter Usher and his team at Lakenheath who ran a superb shoot and also contributed additional funds to the prize pot, this is a very much appreciated gesture and on behalf of the East Midlands committee I would like to thank Pete for his continued support of the Region.

Well that’s it for another season, but in just a week’s time we start preparations for next year. The Regional Committee and its 16 County rep’s are meeting to vote on the allocation of shoots to grounds for 2011 so look out for information on that on Nov 9th.
