Regional DTL Championships
LINCS SHOOTERS PLUNDER TITLES
A fine day with no wind welcomed the 67 entrants to Nottingham & District for the Down the Line Championships and all the defending Champions were on view keen to regain their titles.
In the senior title event a Lincolnshire regular Marvin Houghton was one of many regional shooters that fell just short of a ton but Marvin’s first barrel kills just overshadowed everyone else by a lone point to finish on 99/296 to take the title. The Suffolk pair of Nick Havard and Frank Welham were then forced to shoot off to determine the silver and bronze placings with Frank just running out the winner to take second place overall and Nick settling for third.
In the Ladies event I am very pleased to report that our very own Lady Chairman of the East Midlands Region Janet Stennett from Lincolnshire repelled all challengers to take the Ladies title with a score of 95/282 some six points clear of second place finisher Julie Smith from Leicestershire with last year’s Champion and East Mids Season Ticket winner Leanne Palmer from Lincolnshire back in third.
The junior title race once again meant Jack Wilkinson from Lincolnshire and Curtis Woolley would once more be locking horns, Curtis was leading at half way by a couple of points but Jack really turned up the heat and made no mistake with the last fifty targets with a flawless performance to finish with a score of 99/293.
Curtis therefore had to settle for second place but had fellow Nott’s junior Joe Booth breathing down his neck all the way, Joe notched up 75 straight for his last three rounds losing just seven points and must have left the ground wondering, what if, with his first round getting him off to a slow start, I’m pretty sure Jack & Curtis will not have it all their own way in the coming years if Joe continues to show this level of improvement.
The Veterans title was as always very exciting, Lincolnshire trap master John Winn recording the only ton of the day for the region finished on 100/294 to take the title and four shooters all square on 286 points had to shoot off to finalise medal placings. Last year’s senior Champion Ken Rimington from Nott’s won the shoot off with 25/73 just pipping Dave Kendrick from Leicestershire who took the bronze who in turn just edged out Hughie Peters and Barry Dunmore.
Many thanks to Team Nottingham for once again putting on an excellent shoot and also to Nott’s web master Ken Rimington for providing the photograph of the winners.
