BUMPER TURNOUT FOR UNIVERSAL TRENCH

(L-R) Peter Boden, John Winn, Jack Wilkinson & Sue Bate.

After a week of being tormented by Mickey Mouse and his cohorts at Euro Disney I am back to report of a bumper turnout at the Universal Trench Regional Championships at Rugby & District Trap Club. The 57 entrants drawn from 16 different Counties were treated to a wonderful day’s sunshine plus as always superb targets from John & Keith.

Lincolnshire Junior Jack Wilkinson and Lincs Vet John Winn already this year have had a couple of epic battles and again were locked together on 94 apiece, this time however they were joined by one of life’s gentlemen Peter Boden Veteran from Leicestershire making a rare appearance in fact his first competitive shoot since September last year.

The shoot off to decide the overall winner over a complete round of 25 was a very tense affair with the result in doubt till the very end when Peter completed a straight to clinch the Senior & Veterans titles.  John and Jack who recorded a pair of 24’s in the shoot off then went into a sudden death shoot off to decide the destination of the silver & bronze with John eventually getting the better of Jack, this meant John was overall runner up and Vet’s runner up and Jack was rewarded with third overall plus the Junior title who in turn overcame George Waller from Camb’s who won the silver medal.

Frank Chetcuti from Leicestershire completed the placings in Veterans winning the bronze medal with a score of 90; Sue Bate from Northants had a bumper day finishing on a score of 92 meaning she won the Ladies title plus two Northants titles.

Many thanks go to John and his team at Rugby and also to Tony Clayton who oversaw the event for the EM committee and also provided much of the detail for this report.
