CHAMPION DAY AT GRANGE
It was just about business as usual for the East Midlands Sporting Champions with three out of the four from last year successfully defending their titles, the only exception being lovable Ed Solomons who couldn’t quite get the scores needed to win the Senior title.
Lincolnshire’s Paul Wilkinson set an impressive target of 92 early on and although plenty tried out of the 143 entrants it was never going to be and Paul ran out the winner by just one target from John “JJ” Lee from Leicestershire. Paul Simpson from Suffolk did best of the afternoon shooters as the wind picked up recording a score of 89 to give him the bronze medal overall.
The Veterans title was retained by Colin Saich of Suffolk; his score of 88 was a long way clear of the chasing pack led by Andy Harvison and Arnie Heister both of Leicestershire on scores of 83. As both Arnie and Andy had left the ground, no shoot off could take place, two stands were selected at random with the highest score taking the silver medal and Andy was the benefactor leaving Arnie to claim bronze.
Toby Reed of Leicestershire was another shooter in no mood to relinquish his Junior title, his score of 83 some five clays in front of nearest rival Rosie Brumby from Lincolnshire who took the silver medal, Taylor Hedgecock from Cambridgeshire completed the placings taking the bronze medal with a score of 68.
Rosie Brumby who has really hit a purple patch over the last few months kept up her winning ways by retaining her Ladies title with a score of 78, Rosie was five clays in front of a previous Champion Susan Hallwood from Norfolk who in turn was four clays in front of Rachel Willcock from Leicestershire who won the bronze medal.
Finally many thanks to Adam, Brian and the staff at Grange Farm for hosting this year’s shoot, it’s never easy to get a shoot like this right with all the ranges of ability that generally go with a shoot of this nature, but judging by the scores they got it just about spot on.
