Regional Double Rise Championships

MARVIN RISES TO THE TOP

Ken Rimington - Marvin Houghton - Audrey Smith - Joe Booth

Bright sunshine encouraged 48 shooters to take part in the Regional Double Rise Championships at Nottingham & District GC today (Sunday). This was the highest attendance for this event in seven years, more recently this event has attracted only about twenty shooters forcing the Regional committee to downgrade it to a minor championship and a gold medal only event, I’ve no doubt the committee will now want to reconsider that decision for future DR events.....watch this space for news.

Ok back to the competition.......it was shot over 100 targets and the end result could not have been closer in fact Chris Morris from Cambridgeshire and Marvin Houghton from Lincolnshire finished dead level on 92 each, a 25 pair shoot off ensued with Marvin just getting the better of Chris by three clays.

Ken Rimington from Nottinghamshire finished just one clay off the pace on 91, denying him a chance in the shoot off but was rewarded with the Veterans title. Another finishing oh so close was high flying Junior Joe Booth from Nott’s who finished the day on an excellent score of 90 to win the Junior Gold medal his score was the highest score a junior has recorded in this event for a number of years. Long travelling Audrey Smith from Norfolk was justly rewarded for her efforts by taking the Ladies Gold medal with a score of 68/100.

As always we tip our hats to Carl and all the staff at NDGC for an excellent days shooting.
