Regional Single Barrel Championships

BARRY COULDN’T HAVE DONE MORE

As the Regional Championships draw to a close there was just one more trip to take for the 27 entrants to a warm and sunny Nottingham & District to finalise the bragging rights on the trap disciplines.

Lincolnshire veteran Barry Dunmore recorded an impressive 96/100 to capture both the overall senior title and retain his Vets title, fellow Lincolnshire shooter Marvin Houghton and current East Midlands Region DTL Champion was next best but had to overcome local man Russ Hufton who was still glowing with victory from his success two weeks earlier in the Handicap by Distance Championships. Russ and Marvin finished all square on 94 and it took a 25 bird shoot off to separate the pair, Marvin recording a straight to take the silver medal and Russ settling for bronze after a couple of misses in the shoot off.

In Ladies Jackie Houghton went one better than husband Marvin to take the Ladies title with a score of 80 well clear of Sue Wieczerzynski from Leicestershire who picked up her first ever regional medal, she in turn was just three clays clear of fellow Leicestershire shooter Sarah Bowker who also won her first regional medal.

2010 overall Champion Curtis Woolley had to make do with the junior title on a score of 91/100 just a couple clear of the fast improving Freddy Brown, Joe Booth completed a Nott’s 1-2-3 by tiding up proceedings with the bronze medal.

With Barry already taking the Vet’s title it was left to George Ford from Lincolnshire to take the runners up berth scoring 91/100. A two way tie for the bronze medal between Ken Rimington and Eric Kendrick resulted in a walkover for Ken as Eric had left the ground.

Many thanks once again to Team Nottingham who hosted the day in their usual exemplary style and also many thanks to John Martin for supplying the photos of the winners.

We close our regional calendar this season with a trip to Rugby & District Trap Club on Saturday October 29th but before then September heralds the Intercounties & Directors Trophy shoots which are always keenly contested. First up is the Intercounties All Round on September 11th at Northampton Gun Club where reigning champions Northamptonshire will be looking to hold onto their title………….I hope to see many of you there.
