Intercounties DTL Championships

LINCOLNSHIRE DOMINATE DTL

SENIOR WINNERS - LINCOLNSHIRE

Round two of the Intercounties shoots was the DTL which once again was hosted by Carl Smith and his team at Nottingham & District Gun Club. Just over 100 competitors were locked in battle for the bragging rights of the first of the two team trap events this year and they were rewarded with almost perfect conditions. This event has traditionally been fought over by two counties with strong trap traditions, Nott’s & Lincs but most recently Suffolk did a smash & grab raid to cement their Directors Trophy aspirations. This year was going to be no different and with the home counties shooting first the emphasis was swinging one way and another as each individual score was recorded, and just a handful of points were going to be the deciding factor.

SENIOR RUNNERS UP - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

The final reckoning showed just that as a jubilant Lincolnshire edged to a seven point victory over Nottinghamshire with Marvin Houghton top scoring on 100/299, Marvin was ably backed up by fellow team mates Nigel Lovatt, Jan Powell, Andy Harvey, Steve Bridge, Stuart Whitehead, Andy Leak 100/297 and Nick Rose to give them a final team total of 1744/1800. Runners up Nott’s finished with a team score of 1737 with Jody Clarke top scoring also on 100/299, the Nott’s advantage over third place Suffolk could not have been any narrower with just a single point separating the sides.

LADIES TEAM WINNERS - LINCOLNSHIRE

Lincolnshire continued the domination with a Ladies victory with a resounding 14 point victory over nearest challengers Suffolk. Alison Dupree top scored for the Lincs quartet with a score of 284, Jackie Houghton, Leanne Palmer and Tracey Bridge completed the winning line up, Pearl Butters top scoring for Suffolk.

VETS TEAM WINNERS - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE

In the Vets home advantage finally told as Nott’s squeezed out a narrow 5 point victory over Lincolnshire to finish on 567/600 with Dave Sayer top scoring on 288, Dave was well backed up by Ken Rimington and John Townroe to give them victory, Malc Craven top scored for Lincs.

JUNIOR TEAM WINNERS - NOTTINGHAMSHIRE ( Centre -CONNOR BEAN- JUNIOR HIGH GUN)

In juniors a new name too many took the Junior High Gun that of Connor Bean from Nottinghamshire who recorded a points score of 267 to give him the title, Connor’s team mates of Joe Booth, Isaac Crum and Freddy Brown also doing enough to overcome the Leicestershire juniors by 8 points to win the junior team title.

As always I would like to extend my thanks to all the N&DGC staff for not only running the event in their ultra-efficient manner, but for enabling me to relax knowing the shoot was in safe hands while I was attending a national Shoot elsewhere in the country. I would also like to say a big thank you to a fellow webmaster Ken Rimington who organised and took the photos of all the winners, although I suspect somebody else must have taken the one of Ken in the winning vet’s team and last if not least thanks to Julia who provided me with a wealth of information to allow me to write this report.

We now march on to Lakenheath in a weeks’ time where it’s the turn of the Skeet shooters to defend the honour of their county.
