Intercounties Skeet Championships

SUFFOLK  GET THE POINT

As always the Intercounties Skeet is hotly contested and in recent years the honours have been well spread, although one constant is Suffolk is never out of the mix boasting some of the best skeet shooters in the region and so it proved again. This year proved no different but the margin of victory could not have been closer as they captured the Senior Team title by a single point from neighbours and fierce rivals Norfolk, Team Suffolk amassed an impressive 584/600 with Roger Grosser as top shot and High Gun with the only ton of the day, Rogers teammates chipped in with some great shooting most notably Robbie Manning and Barry Lock both on 99, Eric Chapman, Fred Barker, Francis Alexander, Darren Parsons and P Beynon.

The Norfolk Team came oh so close and might have looked back at the odd clay that escaped the gun, or possibly the inclusion of Vet Mike Jennings into the Senior team would have been enough to beat Suffolk as he recorded a hefty 99 to dominate the Vets class and push the Norfolk team to victory, David Pointer, D Powley and R Brown completed the line-up. The Norfolk Seniors though had to be content with the runners up glassware with a score that has claimed the title more than once in the last ten years, so its congratulation to Messer’s Woodhall Cross, Glover ,Hagan, Vincini, Duval ,Hubbard Freeman and Simpson.

The Nottinghamshire trio of Katy Howson, Jess Roe and Kim Islip had a well-deserved victory in the Ladies team event winning by three clays from a vastly more experienced Cambridgeshire team, Jess Roe top scored for the Nott’s Ladies with a superb 94.

In juniors it was the Norfolk who came out top with a team score of 190/200 with Buster Dagless and Joe Gladden doing the damage with a pair of 95’s, J Simpson and G Townsend completed the winning line up but it was virtual unknown Henry Collins from Northamptonshire who won the Junior High Gun title with a personal best 96.

Many thanks to Pete and his team at Lakenheath and special thanks to Hazel for running the East Mids side of things for us in my absence.
